Job DescriptionJob Description
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute
VP Business Development - Construction (specific to our industry - WWTPs, private, indigenous relations)
to join our growing organization. While we have established a strong reputation delivering complex public infrastructure projects, we are looking to expand our presence in the private sector and strengthen our strategic partnerships across Western and Eastern Canada.
This role is focused on identifying opportunities, building long-term client relationships, developing Indigenous partnerships, and positioning Industra as the contractor of choice for industrial, water and wastewater, and heavy civil projects.
This is not a sales role focused on cold calling. We are looking for someone with an established network, proven industry credibility, and a track record of securing work within the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
Develop and execute Industra's business development strategy to support continued growth across Canada.
Identify and pursue new opportunities within industrial, water and wastewater, heavy civil, institutional and energy markets.
Increase the proportion of private sector projects while continuing to support opportunities within the public sector.
Build and maintain relationships with owners, developers, engineers, consultants, utilities, municipalities and key industry stakeholders.
Represent Industra at client meetings, industry events, conferences and networking functions.
Identify upcoming projects well before they are released to market and position the Company accordingly.
Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and regularly report on business development activities and forecasts.
Strategic Partnerships
Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, businesses and economic development corporations.
Identify opportunities to establish long-term Indigenous partnerships that align with project requirements and community priorities.
Support the development of joint ventures, strategic alliances and partnership agreements where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with Operations, Estimating and Executive Leadership to ensure partnership commitments are successfully delivered.
Market Development
Research emerging markets, sectors and geographic opportunities.
Identify market trends, competitor activity and future infrastructure investment.
Develop strategies to increase Industra's market share within targeted sectors.
Recommend new service offerings and markets aligned with the Company's capabilities.
Client Relationship Management
Build trusted relationships with existing and prospective clients.
Maintain regular communication with key decision-makers.
Understand client objectives and position Industra as a long-term construction partner.
Coordinate executive meetings, presentations and client engagement activities.
Maintain accurate CRM records and opportunity tracking.
Proposal Support
Working closely with the Estimating and Proposal teams, you will:
Assist in developing win strategies for major pursuits.
Participate in pursuit planning and client presentations.
Provide market intelligence and competitive insights.
Support interview preparation and relationship strategies.
Contribute to proposal content relating to client relationships and project understanding.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12-24 months you will have:
Increased Industra's presence within the private construction market.
Developed a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities.
Established strategic relationships with key private sector clients.
Expanded Indigenous partnerships across our operating regions.
Assisted in securing new work across targeted sectors.
Increased repeat business from existing clients.
Enhanced Industra's profile within the construction industry.
Qualifications
Required
Minimum 7-10 years' business development experience within the construction industry.
Demonstrated success securing major construction projects.
Existing network of owners, consultants, developers, municipalities and industry stakeholders.
Experience within one or more of the following:
Water and Wastewater Treatment
Heavy Civil Construction
Industrial Construction
Process Facilities
Mechanical Construction
Infrastructure
Proven history of generating new business and developing long-term client relationships.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and developing strategic partnerships would be considered a significant asset.
Strong understanding of design-build, EPC, construction management and traditional delivery models.
Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
Willingness to travel throughout British Columbia, Ontario and other regions as required.
Preferred Experience
Previous experience with a self-performing General Contractor.
Familiarity with municipal, provincial and federal procurement.
Experience working with engineers, consultants and owner groups.
Existing relationships within industrial clients, utilities and private developers.
Experience supporting major proposals and competitive pursuits.

Compensation: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00 (depending on experience, contacts and proven track record)
