Job Overview
The Vice President of Investment Communications will expand, drive, and lead OMERS’ global investment communications program. This key leadership position partners with the Office of the Chief Investment Officer, sustainable investing teams, and Oxford Properties communications to inform, engage, and inspire internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Originating, managing, and executing proactive and reactive communications initiatives that help OMERS inform and engage stakeholders.
Leading the development of an overarching investment communications program aligned with OMERS’ unified investment approach and the unique goals of individual investment teams.
Developing and executing asset‑class specific communications strategies to support business objectives and meet audience needs.
Partnering on communications materials related to Sustainable Investing and connecting portfolio achievements to the broader investment narrative.
Planning, researching, and resourcing communications materials including news releases, speeches, thought leadership, digital content, and presentations.
Fostering strong relationships with key geographic, sector, and trade media; organizing proactive media opportunities; and preparing responses for inbound media requests.
Managing off‑ and on‑record programs for key investment spokespeople to build positive media relationships.
Collaborating with the Communications team to manage digital investment channels (websites, intranet, social media) and maintaining best‑in‑class standards.
Partnering with the digital team on SEO/GEO optimization and using analytics to measure program efficacy.
Ensuring communications products are accurate, timely, and provide a strong user experience.
Creating engaging investment content for internal, corporate, and member audiences.
Supporting internal and external events, conferences, and speaking engagements.
Monitoring industry developments, identifying key issues, opportunities, and risks, and making recommendations.
Required Capabilities & Experience
12‑15 years of relevant communications experience; financial services is an asset.
Proven ability to develop and execute creative and integrated communications plans on time and within budget.
Experience partnering with senior leaders, media, and other stakeholders across the organization.
Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to present plans and materials to investment partners.
Strong analytical skills, including experience using analytical tools to measure effectiveness and set goals.
Curiosity and strong knowledge of the investment industry, including capital markets, private asset classes, credit, infrastructure, private equity, and real estate.
Purpose‑driven leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Knowledge of current trends in traditional, digital, and social media.
Experience partnering with global communications and external agencies to align messaging.
Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to achieve results in complex environments.
University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Finance, Business, or related field; graduate degree is an asset.
Senior level experience in investment, financial, or corporate communications within a regulated organization.
Strong understanding of global investment markets, asset classes, and macroeconomic trends.
Experience leading transaction‑related communications, including acquisitions, dispositions, and major announcements.
Experience in media relations, issues management, and crisis communications in a financial or investment context.
Experience operating as a trusted advisor to senior executives and supporting stakeholder communications.
Track record of partnering with investment teams, internal communications, media, and external partners.
Exceptional people leadership experience – building, mentoring, and leading high‑performing communications teams.
Executive presence and ability to influence at the senior level.
Preferred Capabilities & Experience
Global experience is an asset.
Experience supporting C‑suite leaders through media engagement and high‑stakes stakeholder communications.
Extensive experience in crisis communications within a financial or investment context.
Ability to translate complex strategies into clear, compelling communications.
