- Experience with post-operative patients
Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments and notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed and initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with family and patients by sharing the care plan during their hospital stay and at the time of discharge.
Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Nurses for this unit need Med/Surg experience, as this floor has inpatients pre or post-surgical services.
Candidates will care for patients post-operatively and must have experience taking care of patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes, or duodenal tubes.
Some patients will require stepdown care as well.
Ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown area.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is essential.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques is required.
Maintaining good working relationships with other employees is crucial.
Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is required.
Some computer skills are needed.
