Position Summary
Viakorp Corporation is seeking an experienced
Traditional Protestant Service Musician
to provide instrumental and accompaniment music for Protestant worship services, rehearsals, and authorized special programs at Keesler Air Force Base.
The selected musician will work closely with the Traditional Service Music Director, Protestant Chaplain, Religious Education Coordinator, and chapel staff to provide professional and appropriate worship music.
Work Schedule
The position requires, at minimum:
One weekday rehearsal per week.
One Sunday worship service per week.
Additional authorized rehearsals and special or holiday services as required.
Rehearsals will normally be at least one hour. The musician must arrive at least
30 minutes before each rehearsal and worship service
.
Qualifications
Minimum
two years of experience performing worship and music services for a Protestant church or chapel
.
Experience within the past five years is preferred.
Traditional Protestant worship experience is preferred.
Must proficiently play
piano and/or organ
.
Ability to support traditional and contemporary Protestant worship services.
Ability to read sheet music and/or demonstrate advanced improvisational ability.
Familiarity with traditional, contemporary, and gospel worship music.
Active membership or attendance at a Protestant church or chapel.
Ability to provide a
letter of endorsement from a current pastor or chaplain
.
Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Professional interpersonal and customer-service skills.
Ability to work respectfully within the pluralistic environment of the Air Force Chaplain Corps.
Primary Duties
Provide instrumental and accompaniment music during Protestant worship services and rehearsals.
Accompany congregational and choral selections.
Perform traditional, contemporary, and gospel worship music as required.
Coordinate musical selections with the Traditional Service Music Director and Protestant Chaplain.
Participate in weekly rehearsals and Sunday worship services.
Support authorized holiday services and special chapel programs.
Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled rehearsals and services.
Maintain accountability for Government-provided instruments, equipment, and chapel facilities.
