Job Synopsis
Thrift Team Members drive the efficient flow of donated goods from receiving through to the retail floor, with this full-time position focused primarily in the receiving area. Working alongside staff and volunteers, you'll provide hands-on support, training, and direction to create a welcoming, productive environment that reflects MCC Thrift on Kent's commitment to community care, faithful stewardship, and fundraising for MCC's global work with disadvantaged communities.
MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners, 1,000 staff and 40,000 volunteers.
Additional Details
This role is based at the Thrift on Kent Thrift Shop in Kitchener Ontario. Hours of work will include day, evening and Saturday shifts.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada for the duration of their employment. Successful candidates will be required to provide a Police Background Check upon hire.

Required
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and communities
Excellent oral and good written communication in English
Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, staff, donors, and the public
Ability to balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment
Basic working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word)
Available to work non-standard hours, including evenings and Saturdays
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11–25 lbs. of force frequently
Ability to stand or walk intermittently for 7.5+ hours per workday
Ability to repeatedly bend, stoop, and reach shelves (including use of stool/ladder)
Valid Ontario G Driver's License
Preferred
Experience working with or coordinating volunteers
Experience in retail and/or warehouse environments
Awareness of second-hand market operations and trends
Knowledge of antiques, collectibles, and brand recognition
Key Responsibilities General Operations
Serve as a brand ambassador for MCC, fostering positive relationships with customers, donors, volunteers, and colleagues
Provide hands-on support, direction, and training to volunteers, ensuring daily production goals are met in a calm and collaborative environment
Prepare daily task plans for volunteers to support efficient workflow and quota achievement
Operate Point-of-Sale terminals and document or troubleshoot issues as needed
Respond professionally to customer, donor, and volunteer inquiries, concerns, and conflicts
Provide coverage for other staff as needed, including opening/closing procedures and cash reconciliation
Health & Safety
Support volunteers in using proper lifting techniques and safety tools
Maintain clean, organized workspaces that meet health and safety standards in receiving, workrooms, and retail areas
Adhere to all organizational and legislative Health & Safety guidelines

Salary Details
Base salary: $47,489 - The salary stated is an annual amount. This role starts on day 1 with a company paid benefit package

LTD premiums are the responsibility of all permanent, salaried positions. Premiums are the responsibility of the team member and are paid through salary deduction.
