About The Role
Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager and working closely with the Senior Vice President of Tax, the Tax Manager will support the firm's Canadian and US corporate and fund tax compliance. This is a hands‑on role, well suited to a detail‑oriented tax professional looking to build a strong foundation in cross‑border corporate and fund tax compliance within a fast‑paced private equity environment.
In this capacity, they’ll execute on day‑to‑day compliance activities, contribute to process improvements, and support special projects as Spira's tax function continues to grow.
What You Will Do
Tax Compliance and Reporting
Drive the end‑to‑end Canadian and US tax compliance function, including preparation and review of federal, state/provincial, and other required corporate tax filings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission
Prepare and maintain complex year‑end tax working papers to support Canadian and US tax compliance filings
Prepare periodic and year‑end tax provisions and journal entries, including tax account reconciliations, true‑up adjustments, and installment calculations
Provide tax information and calculations to support Finance with financial statement disclosures
Draft initial responses to Canadian, US, and other tax authority queries, as well as liaise with the tax authorities related to their audit/review requests
Process Improvement and Special Projects
Identify and implement process and technology‑driven improvements across tax procedures, including leveraging AI and automation tools to streamline calculations, research, and working papers provided to service providers, reducing revisions and turnaround time
Research, analyze, and document emerging tax issues, support tax advisory projects, and monitor relevant Canadian, US, and other legislative/regulatory developments
Support investor relations by translating complex fund tax positions into clear, investor‑relevant answers
Partner with cross‑functional teams to streamline and understand broader business processes
What You Bring
CPA designation is required
Minimum of 4 years of Canadian, US, or cross‑border corporate tax experience
Exposure to tax compliance in private equity, fund management, and/or real estate considered an asset or previous experience at Big Four
Solid understanding of tax accounting entries, reconciliations, and tax account maintenance
Proven analytical and research skills, with the ability to identify and help resolve tax issues
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information and concepts to diverse audiences
Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and a demanding workload
Self‑motivated, collaborative, and eager to grow as a tax professional
Proficiency in Excel
