Job DescriptionJob DescriptionReporting to the Production Manager - Custom Switchboards, this position will work as part of a crew to assemble, fit and mount mechanical components into large, heavy switchboard structures. Candidates must have medium to advanced assembly skills, be very experienced using power assembly tools such as power impact wrenches and torque guns, and be able to read and follow engineering drawings and 3D models. There is no wiring in this role.
Pay Rate: $23/hr.
Location: Milton, ON
Shift: Afternoon
Specifically, the successful candidate in this position will:
* Construct large, heavy switchboard structures and subassemblies using pre-fabricated metal parts (steel and copper).
* Mount and brace horizontal and vertical copper bus, risers and bus supports inside structures.
* Use ladders, punch presses, band saws, pump trucks, compressed air and more than 30 different tools including power impact wrenches and torque tooling.
* Construct pallets following engineering design requirements.
* Ensure strong assembly fundamentals are used at all times (ie., use of proper hardware, applying correct torque, using consistent fastening methods, checking tool calibration).
* Identify design issues and raise them through the correct channels.
* Visually inspect parts and material before and after assembly for conformance to drawings, quality standards and customer specifications, and make mechanical adjustments as needed.
* Check parts picked/delivered to those required using the bill of materials, resolving issues with the Team Lead.
* Repair or rework issues detected during the inspection/test stage of the job.
* Cross-train and backfill other employees/job functions when necessary.
* Work to CSA and UL code.
* Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the internal kanban and MRB processes.
* Perform other duties as required.
Position Criteria:
* High aptitude and physical capability for mechanical work.
* Able to visualize and plan the assembly of a switchboard structure, based on engineering schematics and 3D models.
* Very experienced with the use of power tools, hardware, ladders and pallet trucks.
* Excellent attitude and commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement and teamwork.
* Strong work ethic to keep up with production demands.
* Functional with computers, in order to use a variety of digital business tools (email, electronic models, eLearning modules).

What You'll Do:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
* Able to read, write and speak basic English without help from an interpreter.
* High School Diploma or equivalent; able to pass a background check to this effect.
* Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical assembly using power tools.
* Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and models.
* Legally eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship now and in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Post-secondary education or a technical certificate in a mechanical trade.
* Experience using Outlook, Oracle and Inventor.
* Knowledge of Lean manufacturing processes and Six Sigma Tools.
