Job Description The Department of Surgery is seeking courtesy surgical assistants for both Etobicoke General and Brampton Civic Hospsital. Successful candidates will be part of the on-call roster. There would also be opportunities to assist at both sites (both elective and on-call). Prior surgical assisting experience is preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills and the desire to contribute in a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care are needed. Remuneration is fee-for-service supplemented by an on-call stipend when applicable. Accountabilities: Managing instruments, retracting tissue, suctioning, suturing and cutting sutures Maintains a sterile field and anticipates the surgeon’s needs throughout the procedure Monitors the patient’s status and communicates concerns to the surgical team Operates or assists with specialized surgical equipment as needed
