Job Summary
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the sunshine, and genuinely enjoys engaging with people of all ages. You'll be lifting tables and supplies to and from events, running around with elementary and junior high students in our summer groups, and helping create meaningful, fun, and inclusive activities for families. You must be comfortable working in local parks, community spaces, and outdoor environments, rain or shine. Most importantly, you're someone who can strike up a conversation with anyone—parents, kids, community partners, or strangers walking by—and leave them feeling seen, heard, and welcome.
Qualifications & Work Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
Be enrolled in a post secondary education in child and youth care, social work, education, recreation, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Have some experience working with children, youth, or families (practicum experience considered)
Knowledge of mental health promotion, community development, or child/youth development
Familiarity with the physical, social, emotional, and recreational needs of children, youth, and families
Experience creating and delivering engaging, inclusive programming in group settings
Comfortable with outdoor work and physical activity (e.g., lifting tables, walking long distances, playing games)
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
A positive, energetic attitude and ability to adapt on the fly
Takes initiative and works well independently as well as in a team
Strong communication and creative thinking skills
Awareness of and ability to maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries
Able to engage and build supportive connections with children, youth, and caregivers
Comfortable engaging with community members
Knowledge of local community resources and an ability to connect others to them
Able to track basic program stats and provide feedback for evaluation purposes
Resilience and commitment to learning and growth
Must provide a current criminal record check and Child Welfare Check
Must have a vehicle to get to and from areas of the City
