Job Description: The Structural Steel Supervisor is a management position responsible for overseeing and coordinating the prefabrication and/or installation of industrial steel structures, tanks, offshore structures / jackets / platforms and shipbuilding and other related structures and systems. The supervisor acts as the primary liaison between the project management team, engineers, and the on-site foremans. Responsibilities include planning and scheduling work, managing resources, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with project timelines, and quality standards. This role emphasizes administrative and managerial skills over hands-on execution. Key Responsibilities: Develop and manage detailed project schedules for structural steel activities. Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and on-site teams to ensure smooth workflow. Oversee the delivery, and inventory of materials and tools needed for the project. Supervise and guide foremen and team of platers, steel erectors and welders to meet project objectives. Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and resolve challenges promptly. Provide training and mentorship to team members when necessary. Ensure all structural steelwork meets the required standards and specifications. Conduct regular inspections of welds, bolted connections, and overall structural assembly. Identify and address any non-conformance issues to maintain quality standards. Perform regular safety audits and enforce compliance with safety protocols. Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety regulations. Conduct risk assessments and manage permits for high-risk tasks such as working at heights or confined spaces. Prepare progress reports for project managers, including updates on timelines, and resource usage. Maintain detailed records of work performed, inspections, and safety compliance. Communicate effectively with project management to address concerns and provide updates. Candidate Requirements: Demonstrate a strategic and organized approach to project management. Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and team members. Proficient in reading and interpreting SS technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes, and industry standards. Ability to create detailed schedules effectively. Proficient in preparing reports and maintaining documentation related to project progress, safety, and resource usage. Fluent in English (spoken and written). A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in industrial steel structures, tanks, offshore structures (jackets, platforms), shipbuilding, or similar projects abroad, with hands-on experience as a plater, steel erector, or welder on steel structures. The candidate will be assessed on the following: During the practical test the candidate will be given an assembly drawing to fabricate the detail. The candidate will be required to focus on: Ability to understand the drawing and follow the required steps. Understanding of material specifications and tolerances. Accuracy in measuring and cutting steel plates to the required size. Proper use of cutting and grinding tools. Precision in positioning and aligning steel plates or components. Ability to meet alignment requirements and maintain specified tolerances. Quality of tack welds, including their strength, uniformity, and cleanliness, as well as consistency in applying the MIG/MAG process. Careful measurement, fitting, and alignment. Ability to ensure components meet required tolerances. Proper use of PPE. Adherence to safety standards during the welding, cutting, and assembly process. Clean and organized work area. Practical Test Duration: Total time: Approximately 1 – 1.5 hours
