The Neuroscience & Trauma program provides inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical and neurological service across the continuum to individuals who suffer from brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, cerebral vascular accidents. As a member of the Medical Program team, the Speech-Language Pathologist will provide identification, assessment, treatment, management, education, counseling, preventative and consultative services for an acutely ill adult population. These individuals may present with communication and swallowing difficulties due to impairments of language, speech production, cognitive-communication, oropharyngeal (swallowing) function, voice/resonance and/or fluency. This position will support patients in the Burn Unit, Trauma, General Surgery, Orthopedics and the Intensive Care Units. Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) 2. Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent 3. Current knowledge base and experience in the assessment and treatment of adults with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders 4. Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team setting 5. Demonstrated strength in problem-solving, critical appraisal and decision-making 6. Understanding of and sensitivity to older adults and age-related changes 7. Effective communication abilities 8. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education and advancement of practice 9. Membership and certification with CASLPA preferred 10. Membership in OSLA preferred 11. Minimum of 3 - 5 years of acute care experience preferred. 12. Skill and knowledge in the performance of Videofluoroscopy Swallow Studies or Modified Barium Swallows preferred. 13. Skill and knowledge in the performance of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluaton of Swallows (FEES) is preferred. 14. Excellent time management skills. 15. Demonstrated ability to use flexibility in Clinical Practices.
