Position Overview
Dartmouth General Hospital is seeking an experienced Specialty Registered Nurse (RN) to provide clinical support within its busy Emergency Department. The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, serving adult patients and a limited pediatric population.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care in a fast-paced emergency setting while collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role requires strong clinical judgment, emergency nursing expertise, and the ability to manage complex and unpredictable patient situations.
Onsite orientation will be provided prior to commencing duties.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in the Emergency Department.
Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and pediatric emergency patients.
Respond effectively to urgent, critical, and rapidly changing clinical situations.
Coordinate patient care with physicians, allied health professionals, and interdisciplinary teams.
Exercise advanced clinical judgment and leadership in complex patient care situations.
Ensure accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with NSHA standards.
Participate in patient advocacy, education, and discharge planning.
Support efficient patient flow and departmental operations.
Adhere to all Nova Scotia Health Authority policies, procedures, and professional standards of practice.
Mandatory Qualifications
Education & Registration
Current registration/licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Nova Scotia RN licensing must be active and in place prior to the assignment start date.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience.
Previous Emergency Department nursing experience is required.
Certifications
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification – Mandatory.
Copies of all required certifications must be submitted with the application.
Preferred Qualifications
Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) certification – Preferred.
Previous experience working within Nova Scotia Health facilities.
Experience caring for both adult and pediatric emergency patients.
Schedule & Assignment Details
Emergency Department operates 24/7/365.
Primary shift pattern:
07:00 AM – 07:00 PM
07:00 PM – 07:00 AM
Scheduled for
8 x 12-hour shifts bi-weekly.
Onsite orientation provided.
Candidates must disclose all planned time-off requests for the duration of the contract at the time of submission.
Additional Requirements
Agency/vendor must ensure Nova Scotia nursing licensure is active prior to start date.
Candidates who have previously worked with Nova Scotia Health should specify the facility/location of prior assignments.
Accommodation arrangements will be provided by the vendor.
Submissions exceeding the approved maximum bill rate may be disqualified during screening.
