Food World Supermarket is seeking a skilled and organized
Sous Chef
to lead the preparation of
fresh salads, sandwiches, soups, and daily specials
for our Pick & Go counters. The ideal candidate will have experience in
high-volume, fast-paced production of ready-to-eat meals
, ensuring consistent quality, freshness, and visually appealing presentation. This role also involves supporting back-of-house operations, supervising kitchen staff, and maintaining food safety and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Development & Promotions
Assist in planning and developing menus for Pick n Go, daily specials, and seasonal offerings.
Create promotional packages and special meal deals to attract and retain customers.
Ensure menu items meet taste, presentation, and portion standards while remaining cost-effective.
Food Preparation & Production
Prepare fresh salads, sandwiches, wraps, soups, and daily special dishes according to standardized recipes.
Ensure consistency in taste, portioning, and presentation.
Oversee daily mise en place and batch production for Pick n Go counters.
Prepare sauces, dressings, spreads, and condiments from scratch.
Ensure all items are fresh, safe, and ready for quick service or grab-and-go display.
Kitchen Operations
Assist in supervising back-of-house operations for Pick n Go production.
Monitor inventory, ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO), and minimize waste.
Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and compliance with food safety regulations.
Manage preparation schedules to meet customer demand during peak hours.
Team Leadership & Training
Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff on preparation techniques, recipes, and presentation standards.
Coordinate workflow efficiently for high-volume service.
Support staff scheduling, delegation, and performance management.
Foster a positive, productive, and team-oriented kitchen environment.
Quality & Customer Experience
Ensure Pick & Go counters are well-stocked, visually appealing, and inviting.
Maintain high standards of taste, presentation, and consistency.
Uphold the supermarket’s brand image by delivering fresh, high-quality ready-to-eat meals.
Qualifications & Requirements
Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Cook in salads, sandwiches, soups, or grab-and-go meal production.
Knowledge of fresh ingredients, portion control, and food preparation techniques.
Experience in high-volume, fast-paced kitchen operations preferred.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
Leadership, organization, and communication skills.
Culinary diploma or certification is an asset.
