Social Welfare Examiner Trainee (HELP Program) - Cortland County DSS
This is a trainee position in the competitive class for which candidates undergo on-the-job training to become qualified as a Social Welfare Examiner. Candidates who successfully complete one year of permanent competitive class service as a Social Welfare Examiner Trainee will advance to the journey level title without further examination. The work involves responsibility for learning the duties performed by a Social Welfare Examiner and assisting in the various aspects of the journey level position, including interviewing applicants, determining eligibility, making appropriate referrals for services and performing work necessary for the maintenance of individual cases. Trainees work closely with a higher level staff member to acquire the knowledge, skill and ability to advance to the journey level position. Additionally, the incumbent will attend formal and informal training sessions. As the traineeship progresses, trainees will be assigned progressively complex tasks and activities to be performed independently. Does related work as required.

: Full Time, 35 hours per week with benefits

: $20.7185-26.2244/hr. (CSEA Union)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either:
Possession of an Associate's Degree or higher (or completion of 60 semester credit hours); OR
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma and one (1) year of full time experience or its part-time equivalent working with the public; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as described in (a) and (b) above.

Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
