Job Description
The Selective Wave Soldering / Wave Soldering Operator sets up, programs, operates, and maintains soldering equipment used in PCB assembly. You support production by ensuring high‑quality solder joints, consistent throughput, and strict adherence to IPC and internal quality standards. This role suits individuals with experience in SMT machine operation, automated soldering equipment, or electronics manufacturing who are comfortable working with precision machinery and structured production workflows.
Responsibilities
Set up selective wave soldering and wave soldering machines by loading solder pallets, fixtures, flux, solder bars, and assemblies, and verify that all tooling and configurations are correct for each job.
Program soldering equipment by creating, modifying, and optimizing machine programs, including nozzle paths, preheat profiles, conveyor speeds, and solder parameters.
Operate soldering equipment during production runs, monitor machine performance, adjust process parameters as needed, and ensure consistent solder quality and throughput.
Inspect solder joints during production, verify proper wetting, identify issues such as bridging or skips, and make real‑time corrections to maintain quality standards.
Perform visual inspection of assemblies in accordance with IPC‑A‑610 and internal procedures, document defects accurately, and collaborate with quality teams to resolve issues.
Carry out routine maintenance on soldering equipment, including cleaning nozzles, maintaining flux systems, checking solder pot levels, and performing basic mechanical troubleshooting.
Support SMT production lines by assisting with upstream and downstream processes such as reflow, AOI, hand soldering, and related activities when required.
Record machine settings, lot numbers, maintenance activities, and production data accurately in logs and documentation systems.
Follow established safety, quality, and production procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Collaborate with team members and other departments to meet production schedules and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage multiple tasks concurrently in a dynamic production environment where interruptions may occur, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Essential Skills
Minimum 1 year of industry experience in SMT production, selective soldering, or selective wave soldering operations.
Hands-on experience with SMT machine operation and automated soldering equipment in an electronics manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in soldering, including SMT soldering, through-hole soldering, and PCBA assembly.
Ability to perform testing, rework, and soldering assembly on electronic components and boards.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings related to electronic assemblies.
Demonstrated knowledge of IPC standards, including IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, and IPC-A-600.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to perform product inspections, describe defects, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Organized and detail-oriented approach with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.
Above-average attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple activities concurrently in a busy production environment.
Ability to accurately distinguish different colours for component and process verification.
Flexibility and adaptability to support various tasks and changing production priorities.
Strong multitasking skills and the ability to maintain accuracy under time pressure.
Eligibility to work in the country as a permanent resident or citizen, as required by the role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with SMT and through-hole assembly, including mechanical, electrical, and soldering assembly.
Experience in PCBA assembly within a high-tech electronics manufacturing environment.
IPC certification or prior IPC-certified training related to soldering and PCB assembly.
Experience with quality-focused environments and a track record of challenging the status quo and driving continuous improvement.
Comfort working with precision machinery, production workflows, and automated manufacturing processes.
Interest in learning additional skilled assembly processes such as CNC laser operations and advanced soldering techniques.
Positive team attitude with a willingness to support cross-training and collaboration across departments.
Why Work Here?

The environment is generally quiet and orderly, though certain areas can be louder due to operating machinery, especially during morning shifts, with quieter conditions in the afternoon. Employees may occasionally be exposed to dust, solder, metals, higher noise levels, and physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, and are expected to follow all safety procedures. The culture emphasizes focused, head-down work, teamwork, and a positive, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere, with cross-training opportunities across departments to support skill development and flexibility. You will be part of a production team of approximately 50 people. The dress code includes wearing a provided smock on the production floor, shoe covers, ear plugs, and goggles as required, along with closed-toe shoes. The primary shift for this role runs from 3:30 p.m. to midnight, with initial training conducted on a day shift for approximately the first two weeks.
