About the role We're looking for a Senior Underwriter for Mid‑Market in the Property and Casualty Commercial Lines business to join the team in our Vancouver, BC office. This permanent, full‑time position requires a minimum of 2 days per week working in the office. Compensation Salary range: $87,200 – $106,600 (annual). Base salary plus an annual bonus target of 10% (potential payout up to double the target) and participation in an Employee Share Purchase Plan. Responsibilities Develop long‑term relationships with brokers by providing service and participating in broker visits, field underwriting, and industry functions. Assess and evaluate moderate to complex risks, analyse requests for quotes, renewals, and policy changes, and recommend innovative solutions. Coach and mentor team members to enhance underwriting knowledge and broker relationships. Create process or workflow improvements to increase efficiency and elevate best practices. Provide leadership to achieve regional underwriting service, production, and profitability targets. Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with company guidelines and personal authority limits. Quote, negotiate, sell, and authorize the acceptance of moderate to complex new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business. Arrange reinsurance when required. Maintain positive partnerships with brokers, reinsurers, and co‑workers. Use the computer system for policy inquiry, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions. Attend broker meetings at broker offices. Qualifications Minimum 5 to 7 years of commercial lines underwriting experience in Property & Casualty. Completion of CIP designation (or progress toward it) is an asset. Expert knowledge of all relevant commercial underwriting guides and instructions. Ability to handle complex risks and demonstrate strong analytical skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent customer service skills with ability to negotiate and provide tailored solutions to brokers. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and negotiation skills. Initiative, ability to work under pressure, and business savvy. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting computer tools. Must be eligible to work in Canada; no Canadian work experience required.
