Overview
On behalf of our client, a well-established engineering consultancy in Vancouver, we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with marine experience to join their growing infrastructure team.
This is a senior-level opportunity to lead the design and delivery of complex marine and coastal structures across port, waterfront, and transportation projects. The role offers a strong mix of technical leadership, project management, and client engagement, working with a reputable team on high-impact infrastructure projects across the West Coast.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the structural design and delivery of marine and waterfront infrastructure projects (wharves, piers, docks, berths, retaining structures, and coastal protection works)
Manage projects from concept design through to detailed design and construction support
Perform and review structural analysis and design using steel, concrete, and timber in marine environments
Coordinate with geotechnical, coastal, and civil teams on multidisciplinary projects
Liaise with port authorities, municipalities, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Prepare and review engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations
Ensure designs meet relevant codes, standards, and marine durability requirements
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers
Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and client communication
Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
P.Eng. designation in British Columbia (or eligibility to obtain)
8+ years of structural engineering experience, with a strong focus on marine or waterfront structures
Experience delivering port, coastal, or marine infrastructure projects in a consulting environment
Strong understanding of marine loading conditions (wave, current, berthing, seismic, corrosion/durability considerations)
Familiarity with relevant design standards (CSA, NBCC, PIANC, and port authority guidelines)
Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, STAAD, S-Frame, or similar)
Strong communication skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
Proven ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality technical work
