Senior Security Engineer
The Senior Security Engineer works closely with the Infrastructure and Information Security teams to establish and maintain network security and performance by implementing processes and systems, documenting procedures/policies/systems, troubleshooting security‑related problems, and monitoring the environment to ensure system security, availability, and reliability. Security responsibilities include leading the identification of and responding to security events, documentation, and implementation of policies for cyber security, disaster recovery and business continuity needs, while leading in the migration of non‑compliant environments to compliant environments, as well as implementation of procedures and methods for auditing and addressing non‑compliance to information security standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the implementation and maintenance of PPI's cybersecurity systems and controls, security technologies (including Firewalls, IPS/IPD, vulnerability scanners, SIEM system), and IT management infrastructure including the automation of IT tasks, standard build, monitoring and paging, managed patch deployment, and managed application deployment.
Participate as a senior member of the Vulnerability Management team.
Participate as a senior member of the Incident Management team.
Participate as a senior member of the Security Configuration team.
Provide support, training, and knowledge transfer to other team members.
Assist with keeping PPI's IT/Cybersecurity documentation up-to-date.
Assist with the documentation of PPI's security and IT policies.
Assist with reporting on PPI's security posture.
Assist with mitigating/resolving identified security vulnerabilities.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Tier 3 level technical issues.
Respond, mitigate, and recover assigned security events.
Assist with compiling monthly security reports and updating KPIs.
Assist with testing and scanning for vulnerabilities and documenting results.
Assist with monitoring for security breaches.
Maintain field expertise through additional training as needed.
Travel to various PPI locations to assist with security systems implementation, as required.
Provide on‑call support as part of PPI’s rotational on‑call schedule for approximately 10 weeks per year, with premium compensation for assigned on‑call weeks.
Additional projects and security‑related responsibilities as requested and assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills
Degree in computer sciences or related discipline required.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in a related capacity, preferably in a financial services or insurance environment.
Demonstrated project management abilities and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated proficiency with scripting, preferably PowerShell.
In‑depth knowledge and experience with security technologies, including Firewalls, IPS/IPD, vulnerability scanners, and SIEM System, including firewall rule building and maintaining.
Hands‑on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytic tools.
Exemplary interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships and work harmoniously with multiple teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in documentation.
Proven skill as a creative problem‑solver with ability to troubleshoot IT technical problems at a Tier 3 level.
Experience with Cybersecurity Frameworks such as OSFI or NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in the face of ambiguous situations, shifting demands and challenging work environments.
Outstanding organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
Exemplary ethical standards with a proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of discretion.
Must be able to travel.
Bilingualism (English and French) beneficial but not required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint in particular.
Salary
This role is for an existing position. The expected salary range for this position starts at $120,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skill set.
