POSTING CLOSE DATE: September 22, 2026 BCI's Capital Markets & Credit Investments team is hiring a Senior Principal to originate, underwrite, structure, and monitor investments across the metals, mining, and power capital structure within its Global Partnership Fund.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you'll lead key parts of the investment process, from deal evaluation and due diligence to origination and investment committee preparation, while helping shape the strategy's approach and mentoring junior team members.
We're looking for someone with 8+ years of direct transaction experience in metals and mining, gained through principal investing, investment banking, or a comparable capital-markets role.
A demonstrated understanding of commodity fundamentals and mine-finance structuring is essential, along with a strong track record in deal evaluation and transaction structuring, and ideally an existing network across the sector.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Senior Principal plays a key role within BCI's Global Partnership Fund (GPF) responsible for originating, underwriting, structuring, and monitoring investments across the metals, mining, and power capital structure. The Senior Principal will focus solely on this investment strategy and will play a central role in helping define its investment approach. The Senior Principal brings direct transaction experience in the sector, gained through principal investing, investment banking, or a comparable capital-markets role, together with a demonstrated understanding of commodity fundamentals and mine-finance structuring. This individual will support and lead specific parts of the investment process under the Managing Director's direction, including deal evaluation, due diligence, and structuring, while contributing to origination, investment committee preparation, and the ongoing development of BCI's network across the sector.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165B of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The department invests globally across Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and Absolute Return Strategies, with investment teams located in BCI's global offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York, and London. As a leader in responsible investing, CM&CI actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes across all strategies.
WHAT YOU BRING
8+ years of direct transaction experience in metals and mining, gained through principal investing, investment banking, or a comparable capital-markets role
Relevant education or degree; CFA, CPA, or MBA preferred
Demonstrated understanding of commodity fundamentals and mine-finance structuring across the capital structure (royalties, streams, offtake, debt, equity)
Strong track record in deal evaluation, due diligence, and transaction structuring
Experience spanning both credit and equity positions within the capital structure preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build relationships with management teams, GPs, and technical advisers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality investment materials
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret technical, commercial, and financial information
Existing network within the metals, mining, or power sector preferred
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Contributes to origination of investment opportunities across metals, mining, and power, including direct, co-investment, and manager-led transactions
Supports the Managing Director in developing and maintaining relationships with mining companies, specialist managers, banks, and technical advisers
Represents the strategic resources investment strategy in discussions with management teams, GPs, and technical advisers
Leads or supports specific parts of the investment process, including deal evaluation, financial and commercial due diligence, and transaction structuring
Applies commodity fundamentals, project and financing lifecycle knowledge, and mine-finance structuring expertise to underwriting
Coordinates technical, legal, tax, and responsible-investment diligence with internal BCI functions and external specialist advisers
Contributes to investment committee preparation, including investment theses and supporting materials
Supports ongoing monitoring of portfolio investments, including financial performance, development and construction milestones, and covenant compliance
Contributes to portfolio-level risk oversight, including exposure by commodity, jurisdiction, project stage, and counterparty
Provides guidance to junior team members
WHERE YOU WILL WORK
This role can be based in either our Victoria or Vancouver office. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1 day a week.
SALARY RANGE
The annualized base salary range for this Victoria or Vancouver-based role is CAD $164,000 to $190,000. BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
