What- the Role:
Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Manager, the Senior Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of multi-provincial Canadian and multi-state US payrolls across a complex, high-volume environment. This role serves as a key payroll subject matter expert, ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, supporting audits and reconciliations, resolving complex payroll issues, and partnering closely with HR, Finance, and IT.
A key focus of this position is payroll reconciliations, including validating payroll data against billing information, reconciling payroll accounts, and ensuring all payroll activity ties accurately to the trial balance. Strong payroll reconciliation experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Process and review end-to-end payroll for Canadian and US employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, statutory deductions, year-end reporting, and company policies.
Manage complex payroll matters including terminations, retroactive pay, garnishments, taxable benefits, and leaves.
Reconcile payroll accounts and support internal and external audits.
Administer payroll-related benefits and deductions, including pension, RRSP/RPP, 401(k), and health plans.
Act as a payroll systems expert, supporting system maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
Serve as an escalation point for payroll inquiries and provide guidance to team members.
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT on employee changes, compensation updates, and special projects.
Who- the Candidate:
4+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume, complex environment.
Experience processing payroll for hourly, salaried, unionized, and non-union employees.
Strong payroll reconciliation experience, including balancing payroll activity to billing and trial balance reporting.
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation; US payroll experience is an asset.
Experience with payroll systems such as Avanti, ADP Workforce Now, and Excel.
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage confidential information.
Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
How Much:
Base salary in the range of $75,000-$80,000K, commensurate with level of experience, skills, and education, + 3 weeks’ vacation, RSP contribution, and extended health.
Where:
Based in the company’s Vancouver head office. Hybrid working schedule of Mon-Tues-Wed in-office and Thurs-Fri remote.
