Senior or Principal Engineer – Transmission Lines Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada North America is experiencing an unprecedented transmission build‑out. High‑voltage lines are being planned, permitted and constructed to support grid modernization, electrification and the energy transition. As a Senior or Principal Engineer – Transmission Lines, you’ll lead technical work and projects across the full project life cycle, supporting HVAC and HVDC projects from early development and interconnection through to detailed engineering and construction. You’ll work closely with planning and studies teams, serve as a trusted advisor to clients, mentor technical teams, oversee project delivery and strengthen long‑term client relationships across markets. With us, you’ll get the opportunity to… Perform detailed design of overhead transmission lines (25 kV to 765 kV), including conductor selection, structure spotting and optimization, sag‑and‑tension analysis and electrical clearance verification Design support structures and foundations (steel, lattice, wood, concrete and composite materials), in accordance with CSA and IEEE standards Model transmission systems using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER Prepare high-quality engineering deliverables, including plan-and-profile drawings, stringing charts, design calculations, technical specifications and construction packages Coordinate with civil, geotechnical, environmental and survey teams across all project phases, from feasibility through commissioning Provide field engineering support during construction, including site inspections, RFI responses and as‑built reviews Participate in business development activities: identify opportunities, build client relationships, contribute to go/no-go decisions and support market strategy development Lead or contribute to proposals, qualification packages and fee estimates Develop and maintain trusted client relationships that lead to repeat business Mentor junior engineers and technicians, review deliverables and elevate overall team performance Entrepreneurial spirit Results‑driven Strong commitment to health and safety Willingness to work together while having fun Efficient, both at the office and the work site Rigorous and ethical Ability to share and pass on knowledge Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering Licensed P.Eng. (or eligible) in at least one Canadian province At least 10 years of experience in overhead transmission line engineering (consulting experience preferred) Strong proficiency in PLS-CADD; working knowledge of PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER Solid understanding of CSA C22.3 No. 1, IEEE 1717 and applicable utility standards Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English‑speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec Asset: demonstrated involvement in business development (proposals, client engagement, account support) Asset: established network within the Canadian utility sector Asset: experience with LiDAR data processing and terrain modelling Annual base salary from $145,000 to $195,000+ Annual premium program for regular employees Onsite mobility premium Time bank Cellphone fee reimbursements Group insurance plan from the first day of employment, including disability insurance and a telemedicine program Retirement savings plan Annual vacation and sick leave Premium for employee referrals BBA considers many factors when determining the annual base salary, including location, market, education, relevant and demonstrated work experience, technical assessment, qualifications, certifications and other relevant skills.
