Job DescriptionJob DescriptionOur client is not looking for another consultant. They are looking for the person who defines what the organization stands for.
This is a founding-level role for someone who has built their career around a singular conviction: that workplace safety saves lives, and that the organizations who take it seriously operate better in every dimension. If you are that person — a practitioner, a thought leader, an educator, and an advocate — this is the role built for you.
In this role, you will be the intellectual and professional anchor of the consulting and training practices. You will set the standard for how our client shows up in the field, in the boardroom, and in the broader occupational health and safety community across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shape the Firm's Point of View
Own and evolve our client's intellectual position on workplace health and safety — what they believe, what they advocate for, and where they are taking customers.
Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry shifts and translate them into clear firm positions, updated programs, and proactive customer guidance.
Identify the emerging issues in H&S before they become headlines — and make sure our client is already the voice in the room.
2. Lead the Consulting Practice
Serve as the senior-most technical authority on all consulting engagements — audits, program development, incident investigations, compliance reviews, and strategic safety advisory engagements.
Set the standard for how all consulting work is scoped, delivered, and quality-assured.
Lead complex, high-stakes customer engagements directly — particularly those involving regulatory scrutiny, Ministry of Labour matters, WSIB, or enterprise-level safety transformation.
Build and mentor a team of consultants and trainers, establishing a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
3. Lead the Training Practice
Serve as the senior curriculum architect — ensuring all training programs are technically accurate, legislatively current, pedagogically effective, and procedurally consistent.
Personally deliver keynote and flagship training programs to customers and industry audiences.
Oversee quality assurance for all instructors, including evaluations, performance conversations, and development plans.
Identify and develop new training offerings that extend our client's reach into new sectors and customer needs.
4. Drive Business Growth
Partner with leadership on business development — lending credibility to proposals, leading discovery conversations with senior customer stakeholders, and supporting account expansion.
Develop scalable, premium consulting and training offerings that strengthen our client's competitive positioning.
Build the kind of long-term customer relationships where our client is the first call — not one of several vendors.
Qualifications and Experience
You are a senior occupational health and safety professional who has outgrown purely technical roles and is ready to lead — not just deliver. You bring:
10+ years of progressive experience in OHS consulting, advisory, or senior in-house safety leadership
Professional designation: CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent (required); COR auditor, ISO 45001 auditor accreditation an asset
Deep knowledge of Canadian OHS legislation, CSA standards, COR frameworks, and regulatory environments
Post-secondary education required, specialization in OHS, EHS, engineering, or a related field is an asset
Proven track record leading high-stakes engagements: Ministry of Labour inspections, WSIB matters, incident investigations, enterprise audits
Demonstrated experience as a compelling trainer and public speaker
Experience building, mentoring, and leading teams of safety professionals
Comfort operating at the executive and board level with customers
Credibility earned in the field — you have done the work, not just advised on it
Ability to learn new technologies and use them to enhance training, compliance and operational performance
Preferred Background
Experience supporting customers in construction, industrial, transportation, utilities, or other higher-risk sectors.
Experienced and competent workplace trainer capable of delivering engaging health and safety programs to diverse audiences.
Familiarity with safety management systems, COR-related requirements, contractor safety programs, and field-based compliance expectations.
Comfort working in both strategic advisory settings and practical on-site environments.
Proven ability to lead, mentor and coordinate a team of health and safety professionals, consultants and instructors.
Experience contributing to business growth through relationship management, proposal support, or account development is an asset.
Demonstrated experience reviewing and updating occupational health and safety programs to maintain regulatory compliance.
Experience developing training materials, consulting deliverables, policies, procedures, or compliance documentation aligned with legislative and industry standards.
Experience supporting the development of compliant workplace training programs or eLearning content is an asset.
Success in This Role
Be a self-starter that takes initiative, identifies opportunities, and acts without supervision.
Builds trusted customer relationships and strengthens the organization’s credibility as a consulting partner.
Delivers practical, actionable and well-structured consultation deliverables.
Helps develop consistent service offerings that support growth and standardize operational procedures.
Manages and develops internal staff, trainers and the consultation team.
Ensures continued compliance and standardization of all training and consultation programs.
