Job Description
As a Senior Legal Counsel within Pomerleau’s Operational Support team, you will play a critical role in the company’s continued success by providing strategic legal advice on business and commercial law matters. Supporting major construction projects ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion, you will serve as a trusted legal expert, providing guidance and support for the company’s day-to-day business activities and operations across Pomerleau and its subsidiaries.
Responsibilities
Prepare, review, analyze, draft comments on, and negotiate various types of agreements, including construction contracts, subcontracts, service agreements, and other commercial contracts;
Provide legal advice and guidance to project teams on a wide range of legal matters;
Maintain and update the company’s and its subsidiaries’ contract templates and certain corporate documents;
Review, analyze, and comment on bid documents for public procurement processes, including alternative delivery project models;
Respond to legal inquiries and provide support and guidance to employees involved in the company’s operations across its various projects;
Coordinate and collaborate with external legal counsel;
Perform any other related duties in support of the operations of the company and its subsidiaries.
Requirements
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. or J.D.) and membership in the Barreau du Québec (membership in the law society of another Canadian province will be considered an asset);
Approximately 5–8 years of experience in construction law and/or commercial law;
Relevant experience with Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreements (considered a significant asset);
Practical knowledge of the construction industry;
Excellent negotiation and influencing skills;
Strong legal drafting, analytical, and advocacy skills, both written and verbal;
Proficiency in both French and English;
Strong knowledge of computer applications and software relevant to the role;
Demonstrated judgment, initiative, leadership, autonomy, versatility, and team‑oriented mindset;
Strong analytical and solution‑oriented approach;
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
Proven ability to manage multiple files and priorities simultaneously;
Significant people management experience (an asset).
