Senior Estimator
The Senior Estimator will lead the development of cost estimates and pricing strategies for a complex rail/transit infrastructure project. This role plays a key part in the development phase, ensuring all estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project scope, risk profile, and delivery strategy.
How you will contribute to the team:
Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
Oversee quantity take‑offs and ensure accuracy of measured quantities and assumptions.
Review contract documents, specifications, and design packages to define scope, identify risks, and develop pricing strategies.
Lead the development of target price estimates within a progressive design‑build environment.
Manage estimate updates throughout design development, ensuring alignment with evolving scope and project requirements.
Lead subcontractor and supplier pricing strategies, including solicitation, evaluation, and scope alignment.
Prepare and review estimate breakdowns, cost plans, and bid analyses.
Identify project risks and opportunities, incorporating contingency and value engineering strategies into estimates.
Collaborate with design, construction, and commercial teams to ensure estimates reflect constructability and execution planning.
Lead estimating reviews, risk workshops, and internal pricing discussions.
Prepare RFIs to clarify scope gaps, inconsistencies, or ambiguities in contract and design documents.
Support the preparation and presentation of estimate submissions and target price proposals to senior leadership and client stakeholders.
Education and Experience:
Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
8–12+ years of estimating experience on infrastructure or construction projects.
Experience with rail/transit or major infrastructure projects is preferred.
Experience working on collaborative Design‑Build, Alliance, or Joint Venture projects is considered an asset.
Proven experience leading estimates on large, complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.
Strong understanding of construction methodologies, cost drivers, and project delivery strategies.
Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities within estimating teams.
Advanced analytical and cost planning skills.
Strong understanding of risk allocation, contingency development, and value engineering.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and commercial decisions.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Salary Range:
$145,000 to $170,000, depending on experience.
