Job DescriptionJob Description
Senior Electrical Engineer – Transmission & Substation Design
We are seeking a
Senior Electrical Engineer
to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for the design and delivery of electric utility transmission substations. This role focuses on developing innovative and reliable electrical design solutions supporting substations operating from
12kV through 500kV
in a complex utility environment.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the design and engineering of transmission substation systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, structural, and protection & control engineers. You will contribute to the full project lifecycle—from early engineering studies and equipment specification through construction support, testing, and commissioning.
Key responsibilities include leading electrical design activities for substation projects, analyzing complex engineering challenges, and developing practical solutions that align with industry standards and operational requirements. The role also involves preparing technical specifications, reviewing design documentation produced by internal teams and external consultants, and supporting procurement and construction activities. Senior engineers are expected to mentor junior engineers and Engineers-in-Training while ensuring engineering work meets technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
This position requires strong expertise in major substation equipment such as
power transformers, circuit breakers, reactors, capacitors, and disconnect switches
, along with familiarity with modern grid technologies including
FACTS devices, energy storage systems, and advanced grid infrastructure
. Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and substation design software is considered an asset.
The ideal candidate holds a
degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
and has
8+ years of experience
in transmission substation engineering within a utility or consulting environment. Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential for success in this technically demanding and collaborative role.
