Role Overview
Teck is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Superintendent, Electrical Engineering, the Senior Electrical Engineer is accountable for improving and sustaining the maintenance and reliability of Trail Operations’ electrical infrastructure by investigating reliability problems, developing and implementing maintenance strategies, and providing technical support.
This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! Key Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Provide front-line and deep technical support to business area operations and maintenance on electrical bad actors, chronic failures, and emergent issues.
Support immediate failures of key electrical equipment with troubleshooting and develop repair plans to reduce plant downtime
Facilitate root cause analysis and defect elimination; recommend corrective actions (settings updates, maintenance tactics, operating envelopes, design changes).
Maintain the 600V to 63kV Electrical System and associated equipment within an engineering and trades team. This includes associated equipment with 24V control
Maintain the site electrical design criteria, installation standards, and maintenance standards, ensuring alignment with applicable codes, regulations, corporate policies, insurance requirements, manufacturer’s recommendations, and industry standards.
Develop long-range (5-year and 20-year) electrical asset management plans across all business units and champion capital allocations for electrical assets considering the overall business needs.
Use a combination of preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) for development of asset maintenance strategies
Manages backlog of PM update requests and delegate minor PM revisions
Define and track work quality requirements using Trail Operations’ quality management process
Manage design changes to equipment stemming from approved actions identified through failure investigations or assessments of chronic equipment
Conduct equipment condition assessments and create corrective actions for repair
Execute the equipment Management of Change (MOC) process for modifications to equipment design and conduct hazard risk assessments (HRAs) or process hazards assessments (PHAs) as part of the MOC Process
Serve as the owner’s representative to business area projects for design reviews of all new electrical installations and major modifications: review basis-of-design, single-line diagrams, protection schemes, equipment ratings, interlocks, and constructability. Build commissioning plan as part of project or emergency repair scoping
Support the procurement process for non-standard or specialty parts
Provide electrical engineering guidance to new employees, co-op students, EITs, and plant personnel
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 10 years of work experience in mining, smelting, refining, or similar heavy industrial facilities in an electrical engineering capacity.
Applicants must be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (“EGBC”) as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
Strong communication skills and effective interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
Field commissioning experience an asset
Knowledge of reliability principles, methodologies and technology
Technical knowledge in motor protection relays, feeder protection relays, VFDs, transformer protection
Knowledge of crane controls required would be an asset
Strong computer skills including MS Office (Advanced Excel)
Supervisory and mentoring experience an asset
Experience with predictive maintenance and CMMS systems technologies an asset

Pay Range:
CAD $122,000 - $150,000 per year
