The mission and primary focus of Pharmacy Department is the provision of Pharmaceutical Care which encompasses direct patient care, education and research. Pharmacy Services include drug supply chain and distribution, drug use control and drug information, evaluation and leadership regarding the medication system being supportive of the provision of Pharmaceutical Care. As an integral member of the Hospital leadership and patient care team, the primary role of the Senior Director Pharmacy include: providing exemplary leadership and strategic management for the Pharmacy program; ensuring excellence in the provision of patient care, the achievement of corporate/program objectives and the creation of a healthy workplace that maximizes the potential of all who work; performs planning and strategic operations responsibilities; performing quality management responsibilities; participating in special projects, corporate/research initiatives and other activities that support and advance UHT goals. The Senior Director Pharmacy will be responsible for pharmaceutical operations across a multi-sited program that delivers a common service across multiple locations within UHT. Strategic Leadership & Operations Lead pharmacy operations, medication management, and service delivery aligned with organizational priorities Develop and execute long‑term strategies to improve patient experience, safety, and outcomes Drive program planning, service redesign, and quality improvement initiatives Collaborate with clinical, medical, and administrative leaders to achieve program and organization/corporate objectives Foster innovation, best practices, and continuous operational efficiency Program Planning & Development Set and monitor program goals aligned with hospital strategy and future direction; monitors and reports on results, in a timely manner; Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, including: annual and ad hoc credential reviews, responding to regulatory or practice changes; collaborating with Pharmacy Managers, Practice Leaders, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist/Leaders and Clinical Pharmacists to advance pharmacy practice, in consultation and collaboration with other Professional Practice; Evaluate care delivery models and implement new, team-based approaches Build partnerships to enhance care delivery and organizational effectiveness Financial Management Develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets Analyze financial performance and address variances Optimize resource utilization, including workforce and clinical resources Prepare financial reports to support decision‑making Quality, Service & Stakeholder Engagement Champion quality improvement, patient safety, and service excellence Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders Lead or participate in committees, projects, and organizational initiatives Promote adoption of new technologies and best practices Education & Academic Leadership Oversee Pharmacy Residency Program and ensure adherence to accreditation standards of the Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Residency Board (CHPRB) Support teaching, mentorship, and professional development initiatives Collaborate with academic institutions and professional organizations Maintain ongoing personal and professional development Human Resources & Team Leadership Lead recruitment, performance management, and staff development Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performing team environment Ensure staff practice meets professional standards and regulatory requirements Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership to managers and staff Support continuous learning, education, and career development Responsibilities Strict compliance with patient/employee confidentiality practices and policies Strict compliance with patient/employee safety practices and standards. Appropriate identification, reporting and response to patient/employee confidentiality breaches in accordance with established policies and procedures Appropriate identification, reporting and response to patient/employee safety risks and incidents/events in accordance with established policies and procedures. Qualifications Completion of a recognized post baccalaureate degree; Doctor of Pharmacy or Master in Pharmacy degree strongly preferred; Current registration and good standing with Ontario College of Pharmacist in Part A Current membership to Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists At least eight (8) years pharmacy clinical or management leadership experience Knowledgeable about new clinical technologies and information management systems Highly developed skills in critical thinking, synthesis, decision making and creative evidenced based problem solving in a complex, interprofessional, integrated environment required; Superior expertise in Canadian health systems, hospital pharmacy practice/pharmaceutical care, pharmacy experiential education and research, integrated medication systems, medication safety and quality. Excellent administrative leadership, change management and project management skills, as well as written and verbal communication required; Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs and develop integrated/creative solutions required; Ability to multitask with a high degree of focus and to work with tight timelines required; Ability to use a high level of initiative and work in a self‑direction manner required.
