What is the opportunity?
RBC Cards is one of the leading credit card businesses in Canada and is a strong contributor to Canadian Banking’s revenues and profits. The business has grown tremendously in the last five years, driven by our strong suite of Credit Card products and innovative marketing efforts.
In this role, you will be accountable for defining and executing the enterprise network strategy while leading advanced analytics and oversight of portfolio performance across the Cards business. You will have end-to-end ownership of network negotiations and strategy, ensuring optimal partner economics, incentive structures, and long-term strategic positioning. You will serve as a trusted advisor to the Cards Senior Management team on strategic decisions relating to pricing, partnerships, and portfolio strategy, translating data and insights into actionable strategies that drive measurable business outcomes and strengthen RBC’s overall market position.
What will you do?
Network Strategy & Partnership Management
Define and lead the enterprise card network strategy, including long-term positioning, partner mix, and optimization across payment networks
Oversee economics, and contractual terms, ensuring alignment to portfolio growth and profitability objectives
Own ongoing network performance management, including oversight of partner delivery against financial and strategic commitments
Identify and execute opportunities to differentiate RBC’s cards business through network capabilities, innovation, and partnerships
Network Governance and Relationship Management
Serve as the primary relationship owner for RBC with payment networks, ensuring consolidation of activities and coordination across the organization
Lead quarterly Personal Banking Network Governance forums to surface trends, key issues, pain points, and strategic items for review
Lead cross-functional coordination and communication on network developments and ensure all partners understand the broader implications of the total RBC relationship
Oversee contractual frameworks to ensure ongoing portfolio economics are optimized
Proactively socialize potential impacts, risks, and opportunities with relevant stakeholders
Portfolio Analytics & Insights
Lead a team of analysts and establish a robust analytics and reporting framework that enables clear visibility into drivers of performance across the Cards portfolio
Lead end-to-end portfolio analytics; translate data into actionable insights that drive portfolio optimization and growth strategies
Lead the transformation of analytics within Cards to maximize efficiencies and insights via artificial intelligence and automation tools
Develop standards and ensure appropriate skilling for cards analytics professionals and continued career growth
Partner with Finance to align on forecasting, target setting, and performance tracking tied to enterprise objectives
Leadership, Talent and Culture
Foster a culture of increasing excellence, providing new challenges and opportunities to develop leadership capability in direct reports
Foster an inclusive, high-engagement environment that enables teams to perform at their best
Attract, develop, and retain a highly skilled team with a focus on strengthening succession for critical roles
Financial Management, Risk Management and Governance
Promote a strong risk culture and hold your team accountable for their behavior and risk outcomes
Partner closely with Risk and Finance to ensure all pricing, portfolio, and network strategies are aligned with enterprise risk appetite and regulatory expectations
Ensure risk governance is adhered to in spirit as well as in rule, to appropriately protect the Personal Banking business
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
Experience:
10–12 years in cards, lending, or consumer financial products with deep expertise in network strategy, analytics, or portfolio management
Leadership:
Proven track record leading large, complex, multidisciplinary teams with strong partnership management capabilities
Analytics & Decision-Making:
Data-driven decision maker with client-first mindset; experience with complex contract management and pricing negotiations
Transformation:
Track record of driving transformation within financial services organizations
Communication:
Strong storytelling capabilities and ability to influence senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders
Education:
Post-secondary education required
Nice to have:
5–10 years of past experience in Finance, Strategy, or central analytical roles supporting lending or investment products in the financial industry
Strong analytical capabilities with experience providing in-depth insights to senior executives
Inspirational leadership at multiple organizational levels
Experience with artificial intelligence and automation tools in analytics
Awareness of the Canadian retail and financial services landscape
