Your role:
As a Senior Data Scientist you will be building artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions for Global Relay's customers. Our solutions are developed by small, focused agile teams of data scientist and developers. You will be applying a wide variety of models to very large electronic communication archives in order to classify and understand communication content. You'll have the opportunity to work in machine translation, transcription, natural language processing, LLMs (large language models), and/or generative AI. You also get to tackle interesting and engaging problems related to scalability and high availability in big data environments.

Your job:
Work closely with other data scientists and developers in building and deploying various machine learning models
Execute all steps in the data science process from understanding business requirements to deploying models
Produce reports detailing model performance
Take initiative to identify and solve important problems, coordinating with others on cross-cutting technical issues
Participate in design review, code review, sprint planning, and other Agile artifacts
Collaborate with Product Management on user story generation and refinement
Contribute to knowledge sharing activities with colleagues
Mentor junior and intermediate data scientist via pairing and reviews
Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes
About you:
5+ years of experience with solving machine learning problems
BSc in a STEM or Linguistics subject or equivalent work experience
Experience working with very large data sets in an enterprise-wide application environment
Experience with Python and Bash
Experience with common machine learning libraries such as: PyTorch, Sklearn, TensorFlow, TensorRT and others
Experience mentoring junior and intermediate data scientists
Strong organizational and communication skills
Nice-to-haves:
MSc in a STEM or Linguistics subject (considered 1 additional year of experience)
PhD in a STEM or Linguistics subject (considered 2 additional year of experience)
Data collection and cleaning experience
Data engineering skills
Experience with:
Acoustic or language models for speech recognition
Natural language processing models
Large language models
Kubernetes and micro services
Working in an agile development environment
Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. We aim to foster an inspiring work environment and support employees' work-life rhythms. We provide a comprehensive extended health benefits program, including virtual healthcare and a wellness allowance. Employees also receive annual allotted vacation days, which increase based on tenure. British Columbia - Base salary range
$120,000 - $130,000 CAD
