The
Senior
Projects Civil Engineering Lead
will be responsible for leading site-based civil capital projects from conceptual ideas to implemented projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
Assist the Capital Projects Manager/ Project Engineering Suprintendent with the execution of the capital projects portfolio – Civil discipline support (engineering, procurement & construction)
Collaborate and manage engineering firms to complete detailed engineering for projects;
Lead work package execution across all project phases: feasibility, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
Resolve technical issues and support constructability, value engineering, and optimization efforts.
Review and approve civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and technical calculations.
Provide civil technical expertise for all projects
In collaboration with Construction Superintendent, develop and maintain scope definitions, work breakdown structures (WBS), high-level schedules, and execution plans for assigned packages.
Coordinate interfaces between civil works and other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, process, and environmental).
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and internal engineering practices.
Provide civil technical expertise for all projects and lead a team of civil engineers
Provide input,support to the construction team and recommend corrective action when required during execution;
Support the development of project estimates, preparation and submission of Application for Expenditures (AFEs);
Collaborate with the procurement group to execute scopes of work, tenders, technical bid evaluations and assist with general contracts management;
Identify critical issues within the project (i.e. project risks and opportunities} that could impact outcomes (i.e. schedule or budget) and develop action plans to address negative variances and reporting areas of non-compliance
Observe functionality of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner
Share and implement best practice engineering and process improvement solutions across the company.
Lead the development of project schedules in alignment with the business requirements;
In collaboration with the Projects Cost Controller, manage project costs, review actuals to date provide forecasts, cost deviation and recommend remedial actions to stay on budget;
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
10+ of experience in mining civil infrastructure projects
P. Eng designation is a must.
A good knowledge of Ontario building code and other applicable codes or regulations
Experience with CAD softwares including AUTOCAD Civil 3D, NAVISWORKS or any other relevant ones
Highly developed communication and presentation skills (oral and written) that include excellent report writing, presentation and conflict resolution skills;
Highly developed interpersonal, problem solving, customer service orientation and team skills;
High degree of conceptual abilities and capacity to develop creative solutions;
Knowledge of the mining and construction regulations;
Knowledge of Ontario OH&S Act and regulations
Ability to establish priorities and work under pressure to meet project deadlines;
Effective problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach;
Strong attention to details and analytical skills;
Experience working at a remote work site is considered an asset.
