Job Summary Sedgman is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Montreal. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead civil projects related to mining, energy and/or infrastructure. Responsibilities Lead the civil project team in Feasibility and Detailed design engineering projects, from concept through to completion. Prepare plans, layouts and designs with supporting calculations for specifications. Prepare detailed design drawings, layouts and profiles for underground services such as fire protection systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewer systems, etc. Prepare detailed design and drawings for site development including the balance of cut and fill, the required types of compaction and the finish grading of the site. Good knowledge of geotechnical soil investigation and soil mechanics. Prepare detailed design drawings, layouts and profiles for water conduits such as open channels and pipe conduits with necessary calculations. Prepare Scope of Work for civil contracts, the Request for Quotation, Analysis of tender documents, Comparison of tenders and Recommendation for contract awards. Prepare the Request of Quotation for geotechnical investigation studies and evaluate the reports. Supply drafting and estimating staff with information to assist in the production of detailed drawings, development of tools, materials lists and cost estimates. Contribute positively to ensuring project time and cost KPI’s are met, monitor design effectiveness, scheduling, resources and review compliance with the project execution plan and client expectations. Check plans, designs, materials purchased and equipment for conformity with specifications. Oversee the QA/QC of design calculations and contract documents. Work collaboratively with project managers and multi‑discipline design teams. Assist in preparation of technical details for queries, quotations, contract documentation, technical literature or analysis of failures following customer complaints. Liaise with other engineers regarding development work and with suppliers, clients, consultants and commissioning engineers on design, installation, construction and commissioning of assigned work. Contribute to periodic reporting including project progress, resource requirements, project budget versus cost, priorities, allocation of work, and team needs. Qualifications Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized engineering program. Will be registered with OIQ (P. Engineer in Quebec); an asset if registered in other parts of Canada or the United States. Must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a Lead Civil Engineer on mining, energy or heavy industrial projects. Experience in design of site grading, drainage, storm and sanitary sewers, and road design. Thorough understanding of the design process including application of civil design software packages. Previous design experience in bulk earthworks, site grading, containment berm design, storm drainage, access roads and earth structures. Ability to self‑manage time, priorities and activities safely and effectively. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining coordination with civil designers and other disciplines. Familiarity with industrial plant layouts and associated facilities. Experience leading, mentoring and motivating junior civil engineers. Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail. Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship. Excellent spoken and written French. Strong spoken English skills required. Benefits Health and benefits package. RRSP Matching.
