Job Description
What is the Opportunity?
Product Control team member covering the business function for the Investment Grade Europe desk, within Global Spread Products.
All responsibilities carried out in accordance with Code of Conduct, RBC Values and Guiding Principles ensuring adherence to Privacy principles.
** Please note: while this role is based in Toronto, it involves covering a UK-based desk, hence there would be a 6:30am start time **
What will you do?
Provide an effective link between Front Office (FO), & Financial Control, bringing sound product knowledge into the arena, so that any disagreements in daily P+L are resolved on a timely basis & ultimate P+L agreement with FO is achieved, evidenced & logged.
Production of daily desk P&L including commentaries
Justification of P&L via daily risk-based decomposition, utilizing the Greeks and new trade analysis
Reconciliation of P&L to traders estimates
To ensure integrity of the banks books & records via reconciliation and attestation
Sound understanding of product flows, trade bookings accounting treatments, providing support in detailed investigations on FOBO reconciliation activities
Reporting of consolidated results to senior management including appropriate valuation adjustments
Production of ad-hoc reporting and analysis required by Front Office and senior management including deep dive on P&L, Balance Sheet analysis, and other financial analysis
To ensure the Product Control team and stakeholders are immediately aware of revaluation issues that may affect downstream activity.
To ensure PC remains and is seen to be an independent control function.
Facilitate adherence to and substantiation of the Regulatory and Audit requirements within Capital Markets
To maximize the efficiency gains from technology and business process changes
Product Scope
The product scope includes but is not limited to:
Fixed Income Instruments: Corporate and Government bonds
Credit Default Swaps, Credit baskets CDX/Itraxx
Credit Markets Origination and Revenue Allocation
FX Spot, Forwards & Options
Reverse Repos / Repos & Collateral Funding
Interest Rate and FX-Linked Products
What do you need to succeed?
Must have
4 or more years experience in Product Control, Trading desk, Valuations, Pricing, or adjacent
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, etc)
Proactive and energetic individual capable of developing the business platform forward.
Strong ability to convert theory into practice and thrive in a complex area.
Competent accountancy skills; preferably part or fully qualified CPA
Excellent numerical skills with the ability to problem solve in a logical manner.
Excellent communication skills especially with Front Office members
Capable of working within tight deadlines & under severe time pressure.
Good knowledge of MS Excel.
