Mikisew Group is hiring a full-time Senior Accountant to join our team and play a key role in preparing reporting packages, budgets, and forecasts while ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
The position is based out of the Enoch Capital Region. Travel to Fort McMurray Office location may be required.
What the role looks like:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of reporting packages, budgets, and forecasts; ensuring information is accurate and timely. This role ensures financial information is complete, reliable, and useful for management reporting, audit support, decision-making, and organizational planning. The position also contributes to process improvements, internal control documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and the training and development of junior accounting staff. The Senior Accountant would need to perform effectively within a teamwork environment which places a premium on the ability to adjust to changing priorities, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Monthly, quarterly and annual full-cycle accounting processes for 10+ companies; ensuring information is accurate and timely
Consolidation of financial statements including preparation of elimination entries
Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by junior accounting staff
Lead financial review and presentation meetings with senior management
Provide assistance in creating internal controls and documenting processes
Preparation and/or review of yearend tasks and working papers for the annual financial audit
Develop, manage, and automate the annual consolidated budget and financial forecasts for 10+ companies
Lead the Compliance Reporting processes, ensuring required information and calculations are accurate and timely
Prepare Board and Management reporting packages
Manage and promote process efficiencies within the Reporting, Budgeting, and Forecasting areas
Track project cost performance against budgets and perform variance/ratio analyses
Collaborate with project managers, procurement, operations, and vendors.
Support and mentor team members in their professional growth and skill advancement
Assist with special projects and corporate wide implementation projects
Develop andmaintaincomprehensive rate tables (labor, equipment, subcontract, overhead) that align with contract terms/union tables and support invoices and forecasts.
Train and assist in the development of junior accounting staff
Other duties as assigned and as may be amended from time to time to meet company/organizational objectives
What you bring:
CPA designation; combined with 5 years of progressive accounting experience
Excellent ability to demonstrate initiative regarding monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles and projects; ability to recognize and plan for completion of duties
Experience in a multi-company environment and reconciling inter-company accounts
Skilled in ERP systems (e.g. SAP, NetSuite)
Proficiency in Excel and BI/reporting tools
Knowledge and experience with implementation and compliance of internal controls
Self-starter with a highly energetic, results oriented work style combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Solid team player with a high level of honesty and integrity
Ability to communicate with a wide range of employees, from junior team members to executive management
