About the Role
Our client is seeking a
Senior Accountant
to support their finance function by overseeing daily accounting operations, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring accuracy across general ledger activities. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional looking to develop leadership experience while focusing on technical accounting and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Month-End Close
Assist in coordinating month-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting within 7–10 days.
Perform general ledger reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments.
Support preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Oversee day-to-day AP and AR functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Review vendor invoices, payment approvals, and cash applications.
Optimize workflows to improve efficiency and system utilization.
Payroll & Taxation Support
Support payroll processes, including benefit reconciliations and reporting.
Assist with GST/PST remittances and year-end T4 filings.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Prepare variance analysis and detailed financial reconciliations.
Support budgeting and forecasting by providing financial data and insights.
Monitor KPIs and contribute to financial performance discussions.
Process Improvement & Systems Support
Assist with GL system maintenance, upgrades, and process enhancements.
Identify opportunities to automate accounting tasks and improve controls.
Support expense management systems and related processes.
Team Collaboration & Support
Assist in supervising junior accounting staff and review their work for accuracy.
Collaborate with finance managers and other departments to resolve issues.
Provide backup support for critical accounting tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
CPA designation (or final stages of CPA completion).
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in mid-sized private enterprises or natural resources.
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and reconciliations.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Analytical mindset with the ability to provide actionable financial insights.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
