Eligibility
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection status (international students are not eligible)
Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
About the position
The Food Access Operations Assistant plays a key role insupportingaccess to fresh, affordable foodacross Guelph and Wellington County. This position supports The SEEDs warehouse operations, food deliveries to community partners, and SEED Market activities. Thecandidatewill gain hands-on experience in food systems, logistics, customer service, and community-focused social enterprise work while contributing directly to local food security initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse & Food Handling
Receive, sort, and organize incoming food deliveries and surplus donations
ApplyFirst In, First Out (FIFO)principles to maintain food quality and safety
Pick, pack, and prepare food orders for schools and community organizations
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards in the warehouse
Support general housekeeping tasks (sweeping, waste sorting, shelf organization)
Delivery Support
Assist with loading and unloading delivery vehicles (lifting up to ~4050 lbs)
Accompany drivers on delivery routes as needed
Ensure safe handling and transport of perishable food items
Maintain cleanliness and organization of delivery vehicles
Interact professionally and respectfully with partner organizationsand customers
SEED Market Support
Assist with setup and/ortakedownof the SEED Market booth
Replenish and organize produce throughout the market
Engage with customers in a friendly, welcoming manner
Support cash handling and pointofsale transactions (Square Reader)
Help create an inclusive, respectful, and accessible market environment
Supporting other SEED programs as needed, including helping in our Upcycle KitchenandShelldaleFarm Park
Qualifications & Skills
Ability to perform physical tasks includinglifting upto ~40 lbs
Reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic
Comfort working both independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Comfort working in fastpaced, active environments
