Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Sanitation Worker Location: Richmond, BC Shift Options: AM Shift - 5:30am - 2:15pm PM Shifts - 2:00pm - 10:30pm Job Description The Sanitation Worker supports a fast-paced food manufacturing facility by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized production environment while machinery and production lines are running. This role involves regular use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, repetitive lifting, and working in a cool temperature setting to ensure all areas meet strict sanitation and hygiene standards. Responsibilities Keep all areas of the production floor clean, organized, and free of debris throughout the shift. Collect, remove, and properly dispose of garbage from production and common areas. Use cleaning chemicals, water, and appropriate tools to clean and sanitize floors, surfaces, equipment, bins, tools, and trays. Learn, follow, and consistently apply established sanitation procedures for cleaning and sanitizing equipment and the production floor. Wash and sanitize equipment, bins, and tools using designated cleaning agents and methods. Maintain hygiene-related areas such as footbaths and other designated hygiene zones to required standards. Monitor and restock sanitation supplies at stations around the production floor to ensure teams have what they need. Operate cleaning equipment and other machinery safely while production conveyors and other machines are running. Lift and carry buckets of water (up to approximately 35 kg) and metal trays (approximately 10 kg) on a repetitive basis. Stand, lift, and move continuously for up to 8 hours while performing sanitation tasks. Assist on the packaging line as needed to support production demands. Work safely with cleaning chemicals and water, following all safety guidelines and wearing required personal protective equipment. Follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety policies and report any hazards or issues promptly. Collaborate with production and sanitation team members to prioritize cleaning tasks and maintain a smooth workflow in a fast-paced environment. Essential Skills Ability to stand, lift, and move continuously for an 8-hour shift. Ability to lift up to approximately 40 lbs very repetitively in a work setting. Demonstrated experience performing repetitive heavy lifting in a previous work environment that can be confirmed. Good English communication skills to understand instructions and safety procedures. Comfort working in a cool environment with temperatures around 8–10 degrees. Comfort working in a very multicultural environment and collaborating with diverse team members. Willingness and ability to wear safety goggles for the entire shift. Ability to work safely with cleaning chemicals and water. Ability to operate cleaning equipment and work around running conveyors and machinery. Reliable use of steel-toe safety footwear as required by the role. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in food production or food manufacturing environments is an asset. Previous experience in packaging or working on a production line is an asset. Work Environment The role is based in a busy food manufacturing facility with numerous conveyors and machines running continuously, creating a very fast-paced environment. The production area is maintained at a cool temperature of approximately 8–10 degrees, and employees work on their feet for most of the shift while performing repetitive lifting and cleaning tasks. The culture is highly multicultural and team-oriented, with a strong focus on safety, cleanliness, and food hygiene. The dress code includes steel-toe work boots, lab coats, hair nets, gloves, and beard nets where applicable, with no jewelry permitted to support food safety standards. The schedule runs Monday to Friday on a first shift, with flexibility required for occasional weekend work as needed.
