Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety Officer to oversee and promote safety protocols across our construction sites.
Tasks:
Direct and control daily operations.
Plan and organize daily operations.
Provide information/training to employers, employees, and general public.
Review HR directives to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Train staff.
Establish and implement policies and procedures.
Inspect workplaces for safety or health hazards.
Investigate workplace accidents or illnesses.
Develop and implement health and safety plans.
Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
Coaching.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role in the construction industry.
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and site instructions.
Experience operating safely at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and aerial work platforms.
Knowledge of Ontario construction safety standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements and construction site best practices.
Experience managing safety compliance across multiple jobsites simultaneously.
Ability to conduct site safety inspections, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and incident reporting.
Familiarity with WSIB and MOL regulations, and general contractor safety protocols.
Additional health and safety certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Joint Health & Safety Committee training) considered an asset.
Reliable transportation and ability to travel between multiple jobsites throughout the Ottawa area.
Capable of working at heights and performing demanding labour in various weather conditions and construction environments.
