Job Title:Safety Coordinator
Reports To: Safety Manager
Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation of the companys Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) at the site level. This role focuses on day-to-day hazard identification, inspections, worker engagement, and verification of safe work practices. The Safety Officer does not replace supervisory accountability for safety.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local occupational health and safety regulations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and standards.
Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety policies and procedures.
Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify hazards.
Lead and participate in risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure completion.
Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses.
Prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures.
Track and analyze safety metrics and trends.
Coordinate and deliver safety training programs (e.g., WHMIS, PPE, lockout/tagout, confined space).
Assist in onboarding new employees with safety orientation.
Promote safety awareness campaigns and initiatives.
Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation.
Support Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities, including meetings and inspections.
Assist in emergency preparedness planning and drills.
Act as a point of contact for safety-related concerns.
Work with supervisors to ensure safe work practices are followed on the production floor.
Communicate safety updates and initiatives to all levels of staff.
Qualifications
Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
Minimum 23 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments.
Knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., provincial OHS Acts).
Experience in HVAC, metal fabrication, or similar industries is an asset.
Physical Fitness Requirement
This position requires the ability to regularly walk manufacturing floors, climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift or carry items up to approximately 30 lbs. The role involves working in an active industrial environment, including exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures, while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Hours: Morning Shift
6am - 9 am Flex Start to 3:30 pm - 6 :30 pm Monday - Thursday
6am - 9 am Flex Start to 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm Friday
44 hour work week
