Job DescriptionJob Description RESIDENTIAL LINES UNDERWRITER – ONTARIO APRIL Canada is a wholesale insurance broker specializing in property and casualty insurance. We are currently looking for a Residential Lines Underwriter to join our Ontario team. Reporting to the Manager of the Toronto office, you will be responsible for reviewing submissions from our broker partners, assessing residential risks, and providing competitive insurance solutions tailored to their clients’ needs. You will join an innovative and collaborative company specializing in unique and non-standard risks, while contributing to the growth of our residential portfolio in Ontario. Your main responsibilities will include: • Review, analyze, and quote residential insurance submissions; • Underwrite new business in accordance with insurer guidelines and delegated underwriting authority; • Assess risks and determine appropriate eligibility, coverage, pricing, terms, and conditions; • Manage renewals and policy endorsements within established underwriting guidelines; • Review inspection reports and determine appropriate underwriting actions; • Proactively follow up with brokers to obtain required information and move submissions forward; • Communicate with brokers by phone and email to provide prompt, professional, and solution-oriented service; • Build and maintain strong relationships with broker partners across Ontario; • Follow up on quotes and renewal opportunities to support retention and portfolio growth; • Participate in broker meetings, industry events, and other initiatives to promote APRIL Canada’s products and services; • Collaborate with the underwriting team and contribute to the continuous improvement of products, processes, and underwriting practices. This position could be a great fit if you have: • Minimum 3 years of experience in property and casualty insurance, preferably in underwriting; • Experience or strong knowledge of residential/property insurance; • Experience with non-standard or specialty residential risks is considered a strong asset; • Knowledge of the Lloyd’s market is considered an asset; • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; • Knowledge of French is considered an asset; • Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; • CIP designation or currently working toward it is considered an asset.
