In this dynamic role, our Reliability Engineer (Mechanical) is respected for their knowledge and expertise brought to the team with regards to our rotating assets. Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Horizon Oil Sands Site Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10‑hour shifts (Monday to Thursday) Safety sensitive position: Yes Key Accountabilities: Implement industry reliability best practices and embed them into overall operations and maintenance activities Develop, optimize, and sustain maintenance strategies for rotating equipment to improve asset performance Create, review, and maintain maintenance procedures, equipment files, and support documentation Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to maximize the reliability and availability of rotating equipment within the Bitumen Production area, as well as track reliability performance and evaluate the effectiveness of reliability programs against established goals Support Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations into critical equipment and process failures, ensuring corrective actions are clearly defined and implemented Conduct routine audits of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical assets to verify effectiveness, efficiency, and cost optimization What You Bring to the Role: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated proficiency in rotating equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in the province of Alberta, with a minimum of five years of experience preferably in heavy industrial environments such as Mining, Mineral Processing Plants, and/or Oil Sands operations Strong technical knowledge of rotating equipment, including motors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, crushers, and conveying systems, along with applicable codes and standards (e.g., API, ANSI/HI, CEMA) Proficient working knowledge of CMMS systems (Maximo preferred), PI data historian, and Microsoft Office applications along with data analytics capabilities to support reliability reporting, performance monitoring, and trend analysis Experience with predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermography along with demonstrated proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies, with strong problem‑solving and analytical skills to address complex technical issues A continuous improvement mindset, including the ability to perform gap analyses and drive asset performance improvements Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, prioritize work effectively, balancing the need for thorough, high‑quality outcomes with schedule and operational demands What We Offer: Competitive salary, stock options, company matched stock savings plan, annual bonuses 100% employer paid extended Health, Dental and Vision Benefits May be eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Policy May be eligible for additional premiums Company Sponsored Fly‑In/Fly‑Out from Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta First class camp facilities Health & Wellness Spending Account Multiple volunteer opportunities within the community All candidates applying to Canadian Natural must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.
