Position Summary
The Cardiology Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is empowered and responsible to act as a highly trained RVT on the clinical floor to set an example of patient care, client care, and teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency.
This position is a unique opportunity to support the continued growth of our Cardiology Service, including supporting the addition of a new residency-trained cardiology DVM while working collaboratively with the rest of our cardiology team and hospital specialists to provide exceptional patient and client care.
This position offers a compressed work week of four 10-hour shifts, scheduled Monday through Friday, with opportunities to pick up additional overtime shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs all technical responsibilities of a RVT including:
Usage and care of medical equipment, as well as sterilization techniques.
Placing IV catheters; calculating drug doses, fluid requirements and CRIs.
Understanding higher risk anesthesia for the cardiac patient, ventilator setup, direct arterial pressure monitoring and monitoring of the cardiac patient.
Rhythm monitoring and identification of a rhythm that requires intervention.
Performing CPR and set up and use of a defibrillator.
Producing diagnostic quality radiographs.
Understanding and assisting with advanced diagnostics including echocardiograms, fluoroscopy, diagnostic ECGs, Holter monitoring and telemetry.
Set up of the OR for interventional procedures and pressure injector setup for angiography.
Managing hospitalized patients, performing recovery care and assisting with specialized treatments (e.g. cardiac catheterization, pacemakers).
Maintains practice software including client and patient record management.
Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital operations.
Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety.
Openly and proactively communicates updates to DVMs, Lead Specialty RVT and other department team members. Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines of communication with other departments.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Education and Experience
Animal Health Technology college diploma.
Previous RVT experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
