Job DescriptionJob Description About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Registered Social Worker to join our dynamic mental health team. This unique role involves providing essential psychotherapy and counselling services across multiple correctional facilities. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering trauma-informed care to a diverse population. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, secure environment and possess a strong ability to build rapport quickly. This is an 8-month contract position (with a high likelihood of extension) that requires frequent travel; a generous travel stipend is provided to ensure you are fully compensated for your time and mileage. Key Responsibilities Psychotherapy & Counselling: Provide individual and group therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing) to address complex mental health needs. Trauma-Informed Practice: Apply a trauma-informed lens to all interactions, ensuring safety, trustworthiness, and empowerment for clients who have experienced significant adverse events. Crisis Intervention: Conduct risk assessments and manage acute crises, including suicide risk, self-harm, and behavioral escalations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and safety planning. Community Health: Address social determinants of health, facilitate access to community resources, and support discharge planning to ensure continuity of care post-release. Cultural/Community Connection: Integrate cultural humility into practice. Work collaboratively with Indigenous communities and diverse cultural groups to ensure services are relevant and respectful. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in compliance with facility policies, legal standards, and college regulations. Qualifications & Requirements Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited university. Registration: Active and in-good-standing registration with the relevant College of Social Workers (or provincial equivalent). Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience, preferably in forensic, correctional, or community mental health settings. Skills: Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention. Strong assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex institutional dynamics. Travel: Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and be willing to travel to various facility locations on a rotating schedule. (Travel time and mileage are compensated).
