Job DescriptionJob Description
This setting brings together complex medical needs and active functional goals, offering practical nurses the chance to grow clinically while helping patients regain confidence in daily activities. As a Registered Practical Nurse, Medical Rehabilitation, you’ll support patients in regaining their independence, working with a team to create individualized care plans that bridge the gap from hospital recovery to life in the community. Your practical nursing skills will be applied in diverse and challenging situations, requiring both critical thinking and creativity. By collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, you’ll ensure that each patient receives the tailored support they need for successful rehabilitation. This role allows you to contribute meaningfully to the routines and decisions that move rehabilitation forward.
Is this you?
Are you someone who adjusts seamlessly to changing circumstances? In this role, your ability to remain flexible is critical, whether you are supporting a patient through unexpected shifts in their recovery plan or balancing multiple tasks during a busy day. You embrace the unpredictability of the rehabilitation process, knowing that each patient’s journey may require a different strategy. Your adaptability allows you to continue providing high-quality care, even in situations that demand immediate attention or adjustments.
Clear, calm communication helps patients understand what to expect as they work through mobility routines, symptom changes, or emotionally challenging moments. Active listening allows you to identify concerns that may not appear in clinical data alone, whether related to pain, fear, fatigue, or frustration with the rehabilitation process. When concerns or frustrations surface, a thoughtful approach to problem-solving helps keep interactions constructive and forward-focused. This ability to balance clarity, empathy, and conflict resolution strengthens both patient engagement and team collaboration.
For RPNs beginning their practice, this environment mirrors the medical complexity of General Medicine while introducing the day-to-day structure of rehabilitation care. Supporting mobility work, preparing patients for physiotherapy, and helping them regain functional confidence brings a different dimension to practical nursing. The team-based learning environment ensures you’re supported as you expand your skills in managing diverse medical needs within a mobility-focused setting.
