We are continuing to accept applications until a candidate is selected.
The purpose of the Diabetes Education Centre is to provide assessment, education and support to individuals affected by diabetes and their families/support systems in a multidisciplinary out-patient setting. Referrals are accepted from physicians as well as other health care professionals. Appointments are required. The diabetes education and support team members include Registered Dietitians, Registered Nurses and a Registered Social Worker. Individual consultation, group education classes, and diabetes awareness presentations are available. The North Bay office is a full time service and offers access to specialized diabetes services including diabetes & pregnancy counselling; a provincially designated paediatric diabetes program; and an insulin pump program.
Qualifications
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (completed within the last twelve (12) months)
Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) designation, or working toward certification, is required
Recent experience as a Diabetes Educator within the last two (2) years is required
Experience developing diabetes education resources and programs for adult and pediatric populations is required
Knowledge of adult and pediatric teaching and learning principles, combined with recent experience providing diabetes education, is required
Certified Insulin Pump Trainer is required
Experience providing insulin pump training to adult and pediatric populations is required
Experience with policy development is considered an asset
Membership in the Educator Section of Diabetes Canada is considered an asset
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with members of the interprofessional team, clients, families, regional support services, and community partners is required
Ability to provide health education to individuals and groups is required
Commitment to annual continuing education and continuous quality improvement is required
Ability to effectively assume a leadership role as a collaborative member of the health care team is required
Ability to assume responsibility for patient care within a total patient care environment is required
Ability to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to all patients
Ability to problem-solve and function effectively in a fast-paced environment is required
Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and intervention skills
Basic computer skills
Demonstrated commitment to ensuring the safety of self, fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
Demonstrated commitment to supporting and contributing to a culture of safety and the prevention of adverse health events within the organization
Good attendance and work record required
Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
