Job Title: Electrician – Commercial New Construction
Job Description
This role focuses on commercial new construction electrical work for a large community center project in Vancouver. You will install and run electrical cabling, work with conduits, and support the successful completion of a new construction commercial facility. The position begins as a contract with the potential to extend based on project needs and performance.
Responsibilities
Install and run electrical cabling throughout a new commercial construction site, ensuring work meets applicable codes and standards.
Perform rough-in electrical work in walls, including placing and securing boxes, conduits, and related components.
Use fish tapes to pull wires through conduits safely and efficiently.
Interpret and follow electrical blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete installations accurately.
Work with conduits, including measuring, cutting, bending, and installing to meet project requirements.
Collaborate closely with other sub trades on site to coordinate work and maintain an efficient workflow.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with site safety protocols and WHMIS requirements.
Communicate clearly with supervisors, team members, and other trades to report progress, issues, and required materials.
Troubleshoot basic installation issues and escalate more complex problems to the appropriate personnel.
Adhere to project schedules by arriving on time for shifts and completing assigned tasks within agreed timelines.
Essential Skills
Minimum 2+ years of experience in commercial new construction electrical work.
Proven ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and construction drawings.
Red Seal Electrician certification.
Current WHMIS training and knowledge of workplace hazardous materials handling.
Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with supervisors and other trades.
Hands-on experience with conduit installation, including running, bending, and securing conduits.
Demonstrated experience working on commercial construction sites and following site safety protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on large-scale community or institutional construction projects.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-trade team in a fast-paced construction environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
Reliable transportation and the ability to plan ahead for limited parking availability near the site.
Comfort working with hand and power tools commonly used in commercial electrical construction.

Work Environment

Standard hours are approximately 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and you should expect typical construction site conditions, including working at various heights, standing for extended periods, and operating around tools and equipment. The site is accessible by transit, and parking in the area is limited, so planning your commute in advance is important. You will use standard electrical tools and equipment and follow all site safety and WHMIS guidelines while maintaining appropriate construction attire and personal protective equipment.
