Hours of work: 10-12 hours per week
Internal applications for this position within the UFCW bargaining unit must be received within 7 days of being posted to have seniority considered in the selection process.
What you’ll be doing
Supervise patients and assist with fitness centre supervision to ensure safety and accident prevention
Ensure rules and boundaries are followed by patients
Address inappropriate or unsafe behaviours with patients and report any concerns to clinical team and management
Consult with patients regarding their fitness goals and instruct them on how to properly and safely use the equipment
Support all patient/staff programs and encourage the use of other recreation facilities (e.g. tennis courts, gymnasium, and grounds)
Conduct tours of the fitness centre and promote programs and services available
Respond to telephone and email inquiries
Sign-out recreation equipment and keep inventory of items available for patient use
Record patient and staff “sign-in” statistics
Make appointments for Integrated Health Clinic (massage, physiotherapy, osteopathy)
What we are looking for
Diploma in Recreation Leadership, Recreation Therapy, Kinesiology, Health Studies or related field
Experience working with mental health and addictions populations
Must have valid CPR Certification
Personal Training/Group Fitness training an asset
Ability to perform exercises and movements as demonstrations for patients
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Mature with a genuine interest in a variety of individuals and commitment to providing quality service to diverse populations
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Evidence of good work and attendance record
Commitment to working within Homewood’s Health and Safety Standards

The starting rate of pay (Step 1) for this position is $23.75 hourly , in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Progression through the wage steps is governed by the terms of the collective agreement.
