Job DescriptionJob Description Summary/Objective A Project Scientist III (PS3) is an experienced source testing position. This is a field-testing position that involves conducting air emissions testing for industrial clients. Using a teamwork approach with other members of the testing teams, a PS3 can assemble and operate basic and intermediate testing equipment without supervision. A PS3 is competent with template use and sample system operation including sample recovery. A PS3 is expected to competently progress to Project Manager through intensive cross-training. Essential Functions Maintain Positive Attitude with ability to work well in groups Desire to Achieve Goals and grow into higher positions of leadership Must be able to travel (up to 95%) and have a valid driver’s license Flexibility: Must be available to work 40+ hour weeks as well as some nights and weekends Reads and follows test protocol instructions for tasks assigned Operates a meter box for both isokinetic and non-isokinetic tests without supervision Demonstrates ability to recover basic sample trains (Method 5, 26A, 202, etc.) Performs field equipment and data quality assurance documentation Downloads record data properly using the required templates Manages downloads/uploads of data to server Familiarity with setting up mobile lab for Instrumental projects and picking calibration gases based on the test protocol and/or previous test data Delegates tasks to PS1s and follows up to ensure they are completed Safety and DOT Compliance: o Successfully adheres to Health and Safety Program Manual and policies. o All ELD logs are up to date, submitted with acceptable record keeping. o Maintains good driving records o Demonstrates ability to work safely in an office and field settings o Conduct and document JSA/EAP meetings o Picking and using the proper PPE for the task at hand Lab and Warehouse o Properly calibrates pitots and control modules following all procedures o Ensures sampling equipment and mobile laboratories are clean prior to arrival at job sites o Maintains a clean and organized facility o Capable of performing repairs on sampling equipment and general equipment maintenance o Supports Project Managers and Equipment Coordinators with mobilization and demobilization of project equipment while maintaining shop organizational functions. o Demonstrate efficient, unsupervised use of time in the office. o Direction and training of PS1s in how to perform lab and warehouse duties. o Delegation and completion follow up of tasks to PS1 and PS2 teammates. Field Responsibilities o Downloads and completes data templates with minimal supervision and assists other team members with template navigation and completion o Perform field QA and obtain weights properly on a field balance o Properly assembles sampling trains at stack level o Troubleshoot leak and thermocouple issues within stack sampling systems o Properly obtains static pressure, pitot traverse and cyclonic flow measurements o Ensure all Method 1 calculations are correct for each project with no errors o Ensures a cyclonic flow traverse is performed on ALL projects requiring velocity or flow rate measurements prior to testing. o Completes chains of custody forms and prepares field samples properly for transport and delivery o Review of project data to ensure completion and accuracy o Demonstrates leadership on stack platform o Able to perform tasks successfully on stack platform without supervision o Properly transports, sets up, and safely uses rope systems o Properly transport, set up, and safely use monorails. o Calibrate CEMs for bag sample analysis and properly documents QA/QC and raw data o Complete the Daily Activity Summary within Atlas without supervision Required Qualifications High School Diploma required AS or BS degree preferred (Science and Engineering related fields ideal) Minimum 1 year in field services Computer skills. Intermediate skill level of Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook Valid driver’s license Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrates willingness to learn mobile lab, and CEMs methods and equipment operation Demonstrates willingness to learn industrial process operations and how they affect the test program Demonstrates willingness to learn how to interact with both clients and test observers Excellent verbal, written communications, interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Mechanical and Electrical skills and knowledge of “how things work” Professional Appearance and Behavior Supervisory Responsibilities None Work Environment This job operates primarily in the field outdoors in industrial environments. Physical Demands Must be able to meet certain physical demands such as: Consistent standing or walking Consistent bending, crouching, or stooping. Frequent lifting of objects weighing up to fifty pounds Climbing ladders and/or stairs Use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity Ability to distinguish between shades of color. Ability to operate an Aerial Lift from the platform or deck. Ability and Willingness to work at elevated heights on stack platforms up to three hundred feet.
