Program Medical Director, VC UPCCs and PCNs Work Site: 520 West 6th Ave, other VCH facilities, and associated clinics. Start Date: September 8, 2026. Overview The Program Medical Director for Vancouver Community Urgent & Primary Care Centres (UPCC) and Primary Care provides clinical and medical administrative leadership at the program level for services within the portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, the role holds responsibility for quality and clinical services delivered by medical providers, operating within a shared leadership model alongside operations and broader leadership teams. Responsibilities Develop a vision and strategies in collaboration with operation leaders that ensure integrated and sustainable programs and services consistent with established priorities and the vision, values and strategic direction of the organization. Establish an effective workforce plan in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders to ensure ongoing availability of qualified and technically competent medical and other designated staff. Assume overall leadership for medical activities within the programs/services in accordance with the Standards and Code of Ethics adopted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Lead the identification of educational needs for medical staff and facilitate teaching and research activities focused on incorporating best practices based on evidence into care delivery. Participate in the development and successful management of capital and operating budgets to complement strategic directions within existing fiscal constraints. Ensure an appropriate and effective medical performance management system, with clear quality, risk, process and utilization management indicators, is in place to assess the delivery of services within an interdisciplinary and multi‑site environment. Implement integrated credentialing policies, standards and practices for medical staff in compliance with accreditation and professional standards. Create and guide the implementation of effective strategies for continuous improvement of medical services, standards and practice within the programs/services. Foster strategic and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to share knowledge, monitor trends, identify opportunities for innovation and improve patient access and flow. Build successful collaboration with academic medical leaders to clarify roles and ensure integration with programs/services goals and objectives. Ensure compliance with legislation and safety standards to provide a healthy and safe environment for patients and staff. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications This position is open to Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. Knowledge & Abilities Uses sound business acumen to develop and foster collaboration and effective working relationships with stakeholders. Applies superior conflict management skills to persuade and negotiate effective resolution of issues and disputes. Inspires a shared vision and aligns performance goals for medical staff to ensure alignment with service delivery strategy. Provides timely and appropriate advice and consultation utilizing effective communication strategies to gain acceptance of recommendations. Builds credibility, understanding and trust in the external community to assist the Communities of Care and VCH in meeting strategic objectives. Regulatory Requirements All health care workers in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Records will be collected as part of the onboarding process for all recent hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health.
