Job DescriptionJob Description Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Production / Materials Manager to oversee manufacturing operations, production planning, inventory control, and material flow within our metal fabrication facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient production scheduling, maintaining optimal inventory levels, improving operational performance, and supporting on-time delivery while meeting quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities: Production Management Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily production activities to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules. Develop and manage production schedules based on capacity, material availability, and customer demand. Monitor productivity, efficiency, quality, and on-time performance metrics. Collaborate with fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and finishing departments to optimize workflow. Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput and reduce waste. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies. Materials Management Manage inventory levels of raw materials, purchased components, and consumables. Coordinate purchasing activities to ensure timely availability of materials for production. Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts and inventory audits. Develop material planning strategies to minimize shortages and excess inventory. Work closely with suppliers to improve delivery performance and resolve supply issues. Analyze material usage, inventory trends, and forecasting requirements. Leadership & Team Management Supervise production planners, material handlers, shipping/receiving personnel, and inventory staff. Provide coaching, training, and performance management to team members. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and workplace safety. Participate in hiring, scheduling, and workforce planning activities. Reporting & Process Improvement Generate and analyze production, inventory, and operational reports. Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage production planning, inventory control, and materials requirements. Lead Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and implement standard operating procedures and best practices. Support budgeting, cost control, and operational efficiency projects. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in production management, materials management, or operations management within a metal fabrication, machining, welding, or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of production scheduling, inventory management, and supply chain processes. Experience with ERP/MRP systems. Proven leadership experience managing production and materials teams. Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings and fabrication processes. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Preferred Qualifications Post-secondary education in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies. Knowledge of metal fabrication processes including laser cutting, CNC machining, welding, forming, and assembly. APICS/CPIM, PMP, or related certifications are considered an asset.
