Prime Contractor Safety Advisor: Sub-Contractor
The
Prime Contractor Safety Advisor - Sub-Contractor is engaged by WestPro Safety
& Training to support the execution of complex tasks at client, developer,
and project sites. In a position to observe and influence, this role is vital
to supporting WestPro's safety culture and ensuring work is completed in
alignment with applicable legislation, client requirements, and WestPro's Prime
Contractor Safety Management Program. For the purposes of this document,
'Company' refers to WestPro Safety & Training, a division of Ketek Group
Inc.; 'Sub-Contractor' refers to an independent contractor engaged to provide
services to WestPro.
CORE DUTIES
Daily Site Operations
• Establish and promote excellent working
relationships through clear, professional, and accurate communication.
• Advise clients, consultants, contractors, and
WestPro representatives to ensure projects are completed safely.
• Ensure contractors are working in compliance
with applicable legislation, client/site requirements, and WestPro's Prime
Contractor Safety Management Program.
• Participate in the development and review of
plans, procedures, and programs to ensure safety is always considered.
• Mentor and educate site personnel regarding
safe work practices, behaviours, and expectations.
• Ensure contractors, consultants, and workers
are made aware of existing or potential site hazards.
• Take immediate steps to intervene or stop
work and report to the appropriate stakeholders if work activities have the
potential for significant loss.
• Take the lead in incident investigations
and/or ensure contractors complete investigations as required.
• Advise the client and WestPro when public
safety may be compromised at any site and provide recommendations for
improvement.
Administration
• Audit consultants and contractors against
applicable legislation, client requirements, and their safety programs.
• Accurately keep detailed notes of pertinent
information and complete required paperwork and/or electronic documentation.
• Attend regular client/contractor site
meetings to communicate safety concerns and review relevant information from
findings, audits, inspections, and incidents.
• Provide monthly, quarterly, or
project-specific reports for WestPro, clients, developers, or other required
stakeholders.
• Maintain confidentiality and submit
documentation in accordance with WestPro and client requirements.
Other Duties
• Take responsibility for assigned Prime
Contractor duties as required by applicable provincial legislation and the
scope of the subcontracted work.
• Successfully complete and maintain safety
training, orientations, and client/site access requirements on an ongoing
basis.
• Observe all safety procedures and use proper
Personal Protective Equipment.
• Ensure WestPro policies, client requirements,
and OH&S legislation are followed.
• Be considerate of the needs of the community,
the environment, and other site stakeholders.
• Represent WestPro Safety & Training in a
professional manner that aligns with WestPro's values, vision, mission, and
commitment to safety.
• Maintain required subcontractor
documentation, including executed subcontractor agreement, proof of insurance,
WCB clearance where applicable, and any other onboarding requirements requested
by WestPro.

may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
designation, or equivalent experience/credential acceptable to WestPro and the
client.
• Fluent in the English language, including
reading, writing, and speaking.
• Proficient with electronic programs,
spreadsheets, and safety compliance programs.
• Minimum 3 years of commercial, industrial,
and/or residential construction experience.
• Knowledgeable with ground disturbance, LOTO,
heavy equipment operation, confined space, working at heights, scaffolding,
hazard assessments, and work permits.
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence with clean
driver's abstract.
• Able to deal with the public, clients,
consultants, contractors, and workers in a positive, courteous, and respectful
manner.
• Able to handle multiple tasks, frequent
demanding deadlines, changing schedules, and competing priorities.
• Strong work ethic, organizational planning
skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a
team while representing WestPro professionally.
• Effective verbal, written, and listening
communication skills.
• Must meet WestPro subcontractor onboarding
requirements, including proof of legal ability to provide subcontracted
services, insurance, WCB status where applicable, and required site access
documentation.
Preferred
• Journeyman trade certificate in applicable
construction tasks.
• Relevant work experience, such as carpenter,
equipment operator, plumber, prime contractor advisor, safety advisor, or
similar field role.
• Previous experience working with developers,
client representatives, consultants, and multiple contractors on active construction
or industrial sites.
This position is defined as Safety
Sensitive: Drug, Alcohol, Back, and Audio testing may be required prior to
commencing work. A Pulmonary Function test may also be required depending on
client/site requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands
• Must work outside in all weather conditions,
including extreme cold and extreme heat.
• May at times be exposed to dangerous and/or
toxic substances and must take necessary precautions using applicable controls.
• May be required to work around heavy-duty
equipment, mobile equipment, vehicles, and active construction activities.
• Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear,
use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone, stoop, and kneel.
• Moderate exposure to computer screens.
• May be required to work longer hours during
busy periods or project demands.
• May be required to spend a significant
portion of daily activities driving from site to site.
Work Environment
• Approximately 10% office/computer/paperwork,
20% driving/site-to-site travel, and 70% field worksite, depending on project
needs.
• May be required to work weekends, evenings,
and outside of regular office hours based on client and project requirements.
• Sub-Contractor is responsible for maintaining
professional conduct, required PPE, and reliable transportation unless
otherwise agreed to in writing.
